Default 2003 V6 Idle Adaption

Can anyone please tell me what the idle adaption procedure is. I used to have it writen down but have lost the bit of paper.

The problem I have is since I disconected/reconnected the battery the car almost stalls and the FEAD belt chirps as the engine anti stall cuts in.

I know it was somthing like, disconnect and reconnet the battery, idle without air con for some time, idle with aircon for some time. Auto's you had to hold in drive but my car is a manual, and there must have been somthing different on them.

Any one have it to hand ????

Thanks in advance

I can only find the automatic transmission procedure in JTIS which happens to be the same as for the XK8/XKR. The clear presumption is that you miss step (4) in the following procedure for manual transmission.

With Aircon off:

1. start the engine and allow to idle until the engine reaches normal operating temperature

2. switch engine off

3. restart the engine and allow to idle for approximately two minutes (this will allow the ECM to learn the idle values)

4. apply and hold the brake pedal, select drive and allow the engine to idle for a further two minutes.

5. drive the vehicle for approximately five miles of varied driving to allow the ECM to complete its learning strategy.

6. reset audio unit and climate control settings.

If you want to clear settings from memory prior to this, you should carry out a 'hard reset'. Disconnect the negative lead from the battery and hold it to the positive terminal for approximately fifteen seconds. This discharges all the capacitors and the ECM will subsequently start in default mode.

Thats it, top man.

After reading it all, it jogged the old grey cells, I think instead of putting in D with the brake on, you load the engine with all electrical consumers (alternator load) and move the steering from left to right (PAS pump load) for 2 mins.

I tried it and its sorted the problem.

Thanks
