2005 aluminum window trim removal w/pics FAQ
#22
Joycesjag, great write-up!! Do you by chance know the part number for the clip with the 9mm nut? The problem is I don't live near a Jaguar dealership, so I have to order the stuff on line and all they want are part numbers.
Thanks,
"Air Force" John

Tools needed: flexible putty knife for upper, stiff putty knife lowers, 1 roll 3M molding tape 1/2" x 180"
Time: 20 minutes per window
-Remove 1-9mm (socket) nut per upper window trim location near "B" pillar (on open door)
Part number for the little X shaped trim fastners XR826786 just under $3.00 ea. Try not to break any. I did not (but someone else did).
Thanks,

The little white fastners, there are eight of them is XR826786. Still trying to figure out the anchor one near the B-Pillar.

Bytor, in your case you should purchase the 17 new "X fasteners" (dealer only) and a roll of 3M 1/2" wide trim tape (any big box auto parts store about $10.00) Follow the above instructions and you should be done in less than two hours. For the removal of the "X fastners" I used a flat screw driver and my palm. I am attaching a pic of the "X fastners" Double check that these are the same for the '03. Pull tape backing off alittle at a time, maybe a foot or so, pop the trim in the fastner, pull alittle more tape backing.

-Remove 1-9mm (socket) nut per upper window trim location near "B" pillar (on open door)
-Using flexible putty knife, work it between upper door frame and trim starting from the 9mm nut working opposite. The putty knife will stop at trim fastners (8 rear window, 9 front window). Gently pull/push putty knife, follow through to next until all trim fastners have "popped". There are also 2 very thin pieces of body/trim tape holding trim on as well. The aluminum trim will pull off. Careful not to bend or twist!

The "X" clips on the the upper door frame break. When I pulled my trim off, the rear window 2 or 3 upper "X fastners" were broke, from a previous hack!
On the lowers I believe that you can just bend the "tabs" back into shape with a flat pair of needle nose pliers. There are no plastic fastners on the lower trim pieces.

I was fully prepared to go out today and begin tearing chrome trim off the doors of my wife's (new to us) s-type when I remembered I have some metal polish from Wizards. I have no idea what this stuff is made of but it works. I've used it for cleaning rust off metal, oxidation off chromed plastic, and chromed metal on my motorcycle, and now the aluminum trim on my wife's s-type.
Check it out, it works pretty good: Wizards Products Store :: Search results
Hope it helps.

Regular carnauba wax also restores the window trim to normal appearance, albeit only temporarily. It does last longer during the cooler seasons, however. In December, January, and February around here, a decent wax coating will stay on our window trim for a month or so before it begins to look splotchy and discolored again. That's an easy enough fix for me, and that is what I will continue to do as long as we own the car....

Hello,
my local garage has done this job for me. But since they have changed the clips i have some wind noise on my ear. It seems that they had disasambled the sealing under the chrome trim. It wasn´t put back correctly, I´ve tried to put it back as good as I can but the wind noise is still there.
Is there a trick to put the sealing back coorectly?
Thanks
Sven

Hello Sven, welcome to the forum.
You should follow JaguarForums protocol and introduce yourself in the "New Member" section.
Secondly, please use the "User CP" located at the top left tool bar and go to "edit signature", place your vehicles model, engine and year.
Did the shop use the 3M body tape? That could possibly cause the wind that you are hearing.

This is an old thread but I would like to make polishing out that trim much easier for all of you. I have been doing car detailing as a hobby and extra income for over 25 years. About 7 years ago I started using, Masters formula for metal polishing. I've done my share of dull trim and including the Jag door trim. This stuff is a miracle worker for shining metal AND it does not harm paint in any way. I am attaching a pic of a customer motorcycle. Notice his gas cap. It was machined metal factory OEM. I rubbed a little Masters Formula on it just to clean it and it polished within seconds!! I called my customer to apologize as that is not how the stock cap came. He gave me the OK to polish it. Try it on your trim and I'm sure you will be happy. As far as I know it is only available on the web and at car shows from vendors!
