Hi Guys,

I have a leak at the top of my tank - does the tank have a gasket I may replace instead of paying jaguar $400 for a plastic tank ??? It looks like I can pull the top off, put in a gasket and be done. Thoughts ?

The tank is most likely leaking from the small hose connection at the top, there is no gasket but there are much cheaper tanks than $400.

 

Thank you - to clarify the top of the tank is wet - around the edges...

 

These poorly-designed coolant expansion tanks are infamous for developing leaks from their plastic nozzles as well as from their seams. If your tank is original, consider yourself fortunate for it to have lasted this long and replace it now. They are available on-line from various sellers (typically in the $90 to $125 range) and are a relatively straightforward DIY procedure to remove and install. Just be careful when working with any plastic component as they are prone to breakage from heavy handling....

 

Definitely a seam leak - am fortunate that with 108k miles its survived this long - I have other issues for another forum too. LOL

 

If you DIY be careful not to loose the spring clip from the bottom hose connection.

 

OH GAWD YES! Wrap a safety wire around it before removing it.
