Bizarre Headlight Pattern
Hi. I'm new to the forum. I just purchased a 2002 S type 3.0 and noticed the headlights (low beams) appeared to be aimed high. On trying to adjust, I found that the right headlight was projecting a very scattered and diffuse pattern. On further examination I noted that, on the right side, the reflector was separated from the front bezel (not the lens) by about 1/2 inch while the left (normal, I think) reflector was flush. While I was able to lower the beam with the adjustment screw the pattern remains very scattered. I didn't try fiddling with the bulb because I thought the entire assembly might be misaligned. The trouble is I don't see a way to move the reflector assembly forward (assuming it's the left headlamp which is "wrong" and the right is "right." Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
take the trim off over the radiator and grab the electrical connector to the high beam bulbs. It should be firm and not move the inner headlight assembly around, thats normal, if it flops around and is broken. It can be repaired if not too broke, see my thread on Stype headlight repair
Thanks Brutal. I have the halogen headlights. There's no movement in the assemblies. My question is: should there be 1/2 inch distance between the reflector and the front part of the headlight assembly and could this be responsible for the bizarre pattern. Any ideas?
