Default Brake pedal jamming on.

Did it once yesterday and several times today about 20% of the time when braking. The pedal sticks in the down position but can easily be released by tapping the brake pedal once.
It releases with a metallic ping as if its caught on something. I noticed the brake pedal can be moved to the left quite a bit, maybe an inch and can be moved very little to the right. It should be fairly snug in both directions with nominal movement. I did my best to look underneath in the footwell but with very poor spinal movement atm I couldn't get to see a great deal. The pedal is obviously moving too far to the left though even just using one hand. I guess this metallic ping is because its catching on something under there. The parts diagram and service manual show very little of the brake lever mechanism.
I wondered if anyone has come across this before?

Have the pedal mechanism checked as the return spring on the pedal pivot may be broken or the pivot itself may be loose.

The brake pedal assy is not looking good and tbh I think some of that damage is down to my size 12 steelers. I am a bit lacking in my motor control with legs and feet.
The good news is I found a brand new OE brake pedal for my car for £68 incl delivery. So I bought it and it should arrive tomorrow. Keeping fingers crossed.
The full price is £175 pounds by the way.
Then my super fit and agile mobile mechanic can fit it.

The pedal assy arrived end of last week and having seen it, it is one hell of an assembly! Looks very much like the stearing column will need to be seperated to fit it. I can't see the job needing the whole steering column to be stripped for the pedal assy to be slid down from the top. So I guess there must be a join or a UJ somewhere underneath.

I took some photos and I'll take some more tomorrow which I will post up on here later. I'm snapping photos but not able to see where.

Hey busa how you been...my sciatica is getting worse so anything I want done to my car I plan on doing within 6 months. Some lower bushings mostly. I had a hard enough time changing some light bulbs in the pedal Area. Good luck
