Default Complete Brake Failure

2008 S, 3.0 56k miles, purchased new. Replaced front pads. Moved piston back with a C clamp. Did nothing to rear brakes. Didn't bleed or open the system. Started veh, had soft pedal, put into reverse and pedal went completely to floor, pumped pedal three times, each time went completely to floor. By this time I was through the fence and going down the hill....(don't want to talk about this part)....once towed back to driveway veh started, now had a firm pedal, but ABS light was on, Brake light was on and had messages for ABS failure, cruise not available, and I think something like Booster not available.

Restarted the veh. Booster not available message not showing. Drove the car up and down long driveway, brakes were good and after two more starts ABS,Brake light and all messages disappeared. Tested ABS on gravel and appeared to properly operate.

Any ideas? thanks

After doing a brake job you must pump the brake peddle prior to starting the car until the peddle feels normal and doesn't go down to the floor. The caliper pistons have to be pushed back in to position before they are able to stop the vehicle.

Since there is a split system for the front and rear, why didn't the rear brakes stop the veh and why all the error codes?

Most of your stopping power comes from the front. I'm not sure how the ABS control module came to the conclusion to set the light in your situation, maybe the brake booster pedal travel sensor gave some info to the control module that it didn't like. But in the end your brake system is fine, you just missed a step in the repair.

Given the age and kilometres/miles on your vehicle, has the brake fluid been replaced? The fluid should be replaced every two years as it's hygroscopic and will trap moisture leading to braking system internal corrosion or loss of braking effort as the fluid boils.
