Dashboard Rattle
I just purchased a 2002 S Type 3.0 and there is an intermittent rattle from the right side of the dashboard. It is not coming from the glovebox or storage bins. It does not seem to be coming from the air vents. I know this is a very vague problem but I would appreciate any thoughts.
I was hearing a similar noise in my '07 X-Type. Not sure if the parts are similar to the S-Type, but what I found on mine was the window switch on the front passenger door. I gently stuffed a tissue into the gap where the fingertip would go in to to pull up on the switch to raise the window. Had to make sure it wasn't enough to lift the switch, either. The noise subsided when I drove the car around where I would normally hear it (bumpy/rough surface).
Now, I don't know if I want to even try to pursue having the switch replaced for that noise, though. It may cause more trouble in the long run.

Oh those damned rattles! I have a "zizzle" that comes to talk to me every so oft from around the heater vents in the dash-panel. Conversly, my rear-end rattles have recently taken a holiday. It's so nice to be silent, like when next door's dog goes away for a fortnight. Trouble is, it comes back..... just like the rattles.

Thanks Joycesjag: It was the defroster panel. First car I've owned where there is a defroster panel that is separate from the to of the dash. I'm sure the designers had a VERY Good reason.
