In a related thread on the the trunk button reminded me of a similar "problem" that I had with my car. Every time you take the key out of the ignition, the front seat would move backwards.
When you entered the car and put the key in the ignition, the seat would move forward to its last position.
Waiting for that got to be a pain in the tail.
I went to the Jag dealer to figure out how to disable that "feature." I found that you have to rotate a knob on the column below the turn signal switch to pedals or column. Voila, no more driver seat song and dance.
Why in the hell did Jaguar think that feature would benefit anyone. All I can figure out is that they want to sell its customers new seat motors.

Hi FloridaJag,
It's not only seat motors, they also can sell steering wheel motors. My '96 XJ6 did the same thing, however, one time I heard this graunching noise from my steering column. The motor ate itself and the steering wheel was stuck in the forward position. I just learned to drive it that way.
Another problem, the remote we had was set for a specific memory button. I found this out the hard way when I got the car and after I started the car, everything went to my wife's setting. Since I,m 5'10 and she's 5'2 I felt like I was in a trash compactor.

These features are clearly described in the handbook for your car (which is also available for free download). I think Jaguar expect an owner of an expensive car either to do a bit of reading or if lazy to ask a dealer.
Mike - you can easily program which remote does what. You describe the way someone arranged it, probably a previous owner.
Used properly, these are very useful features.

jagV8,
It happened when I first got the car. I didn't know what the memory setting it was for, either 1 or 2. I guessed 1, which was my setting, and I guessed wrong. Once I figured that out, everything was OK.

I am sure it was in there somewhere. I did consult the manual for tips on how to disable the beltminder. I tried following those steps, but couldn't get the beltminder disabled.Originally Posted by jagv8

I can easily do without memory settings on ANY features in our vehicles (except for pre-set buttons for FM radio stations). Just something else on the list that will eventually break down....

I agree that it is yet another mechanical thing to fail BUT I tuck myself in the cockpit like an F-16 pilot, with the steering wheel close to me and down. If it didnt move up and down it would not be fun getting in and out of the vehicle.Originally Posted by Jon89
