Default Drivers side window in-op......maybe off track?

I have a 2005 STS and my DS window was frozen from a snowstorm on an extremely cold morning. While trying to get it to move and after multiple (and unsuccessful) up and down use of the switch to free the window, I banged on the glass to loosen the ice. No love! I can hear the motor, and the switches are working but now all I hear is a whirring noise and clicking and the window has dropped maybe a quarter inch or so. Could there be a stripped gear or perhaps the window slipped off the track? If there's a bad gear or module that's a somewhat known weak part issue, I would order it so that when the door panel is pulled, the part is available to fix it immediately; rather than tie up my DD for days waiting for it. Any thoughts or experience out there?

Well to me, sounds like a foolish move to "bang" on an iced up window. You most likely have broken the plastic guides within the window regulator. My educated guess is you need to order a new window regulator.

+1 and your window will likely soon drop into the door.

Yeah, it was a stupid move banging on the window and now I'm banging my head! Is this a reasonably-easy DIY or do I need someone with skills to replace?

It's not too tricky, there is a sticky for the rear one https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ics-faq-57126/ the front is very similar, the LS regulator will not fit the front on your car.

Great link & write-up Norri, and I will use it or pass it on to someone that has better mechanical skills than I.
