Im wondering how many of you guys fully turn off your DSC and just put it to the floor from a stop light on a regular basis and or let it redline often?

how often do you do this type of stuff and what wear do you think it does to the cars(besides the tires)?

obviously this is mostly for the R guys and some V8 guys, sorry i like the 3.0s and have put 4 or 5k miles on different ones and they have some great attributes but no need to disable DSC unless its raining (might be a bad idea) or youre turning.

 

Nothing unusual or out of the ordinary...You basically described how I drive.

 

I do an Italian tune up from time to time.

 

I thought that was just exercise for the STR. I'll just say its in pretty good shape.

 

a engine with that much toque doesnt get stressed or get fatigue wear that easily so dont worry and enjoy it

occasionally yes, although the cost of tires seems to get more painful every time suppose that is the price of admission

 

The 5 speed Ford gearbox was known to be tempermental. Sell or trade the bitch for a 2003-08 4.2 ZF 6 speed model.

I don't know about the others, but I will tell you, the only time I leave DSC on in my car is if it's raining. I will also attest to there's not a day since I've had her that I don't break 150 at least once a day (I find a place to do it).

I am also known for leaving smoke and rubber trails all over, except when I have my designer rims on. With it being cold now, I'm finishing off the Falken 452's so I can put the Good Years on the rear like in the front for the winter.

Oh did I mention???? What Gear Box Strain????

 

I wish I could reach 150 in my car. Where do you find the road to do that? I cant even find enough road to break 100 most of the time.

On the other hand, I'm limited to 121 mph.

I have wanted to do something about that, but things keep getting in the way.

 

If you kept the hours I do and Travel when I do, in some of the spots you'd need to beware of deer grazing. I'll just say I'm in the North East and have found spots from Kentucky to NYC where I lit the cat loose regularly.

I'll offer you this as a suggestion. Ask your local high end car dealerships where they take potential buyers with the high end machines to open them up before a purchase. Trust that Ferrari, Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Rolls Royce, Mercedes, Mazerati, Porsche, Dodge, Ford and General Motors and a few others all have the spots where they tell their clients "Go Ahead, Open her up".

Were that not the case, I'd have never have purchased any of the Vehicles

I probably do the DSC off/Sport mode on/stomp the skinny pedal to the floor at least once a day. So fun it is addicting. Like Docuzzie, I usually turn off the DSC unless it is raining. I did a good job of melting the rear tires the car came with, now I'm roasting some General Exclaim UHP's - gotta say these tires are much stickier and really hook up.

While I would love to preserve my STR forever, I also want to drive it like it is meant to be driven, which is ballz out!!

I'm sure it is built properly, but don't kid yourselves here. I'm not even sure our motor has forged pistons which IMO should have been put in. If you drive the car hard all the time it will wear out faster. Trans, axles, rear end, motor etc. More than likely you will need to change the trans fluid more often or risk burning it up. We don't have external trans coolers on our cars and the internal radiator cooler sucks, so I would be careful about flooring it all the time.

As an example, in the 90's I had a Camaro SS. Had it built to the hilt with all forged internals (higher-end brand parts too, not Eagle junk..). P600B supercharger, huge cam, etc. The motor cost me about $10,000 and it lasted a whopping 18,000 miles. I beat the crap out of it all the time...even though I made some stupid mistakes back then like revving it up when it was cold. So maybe that is why it didn't last as long..but it spun 2 rod bearings and sent metal everywhere in the motor. I just stripped the car and parted everything out.
