Exclamation electric windows

on my 2000/2001 S TYPE SPORT l am having trouble setting my new motor and regulator up on my near side front , l have broken 1 regulator by not getting it right , do the window clamps need to be level with the bottom of the window ? because the window has to be half way down to reach the window clamps not sure this is the best way to get it all level ,,cheers

JTIS gives the following for aligning the window glass after refitting the regulator and motor:

The window glass should be placed in the clamps then inserted into the B post seal. The window glass should then be moved forwards 2mm for correct alignment.

From the sound of that, alignment is in relation to the B Post seal and not by maximum insertion into the clamps.
