Hi everyone, I'm a Jag newbie and just recently became an owner of a 3.0 S-type. (If you're courious to know why, you'll find info in my intro post!)
The car has several things to fix, including its transmission, a 5n55r (car is a '99/00).
I'm based in Italy and it looks like that this gearbox is not as spread as it would be in the US. For that reason a rebuild appears unlikely.
I went online looking for a spare and found several 5N55R gearboxes available, but seems like there are 2 Engine codes FB and FC.
Mine is an FC engine, but I don't understand what's the difference between the 2 and if there are potential issues in mounting a gearbox originally meant for a FB engine.
I know that later models mounted the 6 speed ZF, but can't figure out what other intermediate versions were available for this car.
