Default Extended Warranties for STR 05'

I have an 05' STR wiith 98k. I haven't had any major tranny issues but lurch on the 2-1 downshift. But needless to say im scared to drive my car because If the transmission goes I won't be able to rebuild it money wise. I have seen a few people on here with successful experiences with some of these companies like auto assure llc, and such. But I looked them up on BBB and they got a C rating. Question is does or did anyone have good experiences with specific extended warranty companies??

I wouldn't be too worried. Only tranny failures I've herd of have been 2003-2004 models. Which suffer from trans issues from day one which probably causes premature wear which later on turned into a serious issue.

Also when I bought my 05 str the cheapest warranty at the dealership I worked at was 3500 and that was getting it at cost.

I think you might have a tough time finding a company that will write a policy for your car. Most of them seem to have a limit at 100K miles.

I'm sorry to say that your best option is probably creating a dedicated bank account and to start depositing $ there for future repairs.

As for your transmission behavior, have you had it flushed and the fluid changed?

Sealed for life? Really...

The ZF is pretty good. Only a few people have had them rebuilt and some of them had it done when it was not needed!

The Lurch will not cause the transmission to break. It's just a smoothness issue that's a big deal because it's on a luxury car. It should not be there but it's only a bother. Have you tried the normal repairs? Have you serviced the transmission and had the TCM flashed with the latest software?

My 2005 STR is at 92K miles and rarely shows any signs of the Lurch. I had the transmission serviced about 20K miles ago.

With your high miles I would not even try to get a warranty. That time has come and gone. We have enough knowledge on this forum to repair anything that happens. Has the hose under the super charger been changed? Mine has not but I realize it could happen. So I have the parts but won’t repair it until it starts to leak.

Keep on driving!

Even if you find a warranty company to cover the car, the premiums will be about the same cost as any repair the car is likely to need.

Put the same money in the bank and keep it 'available 'just in case'. Become your own insurance company in other words.

The ZF transmissions in 03-04 S-types are the same as later models, no more/no less reliable.
