Disagree!! The STR is not a troublesome car. I have had my 2005 for 3+ years and now with almost 77K miles and have had very few problems. I had a warranty for the first year and did get the car in tip-top shape but no coverage since 50K miles.

Very low cost so far!! Always DIY there is no other way to make it work!

My only experience with extended warranties is the Ford warranty I had on the LS. I have never used it although I did use the original warranty twice. Once for the DCCV and once for COPs. I worked the warranty into the deal when purchasing the car from the dealer.

The main thing to keep in mind is that extended warranties are big money makers for which ever company is providing them. As Delta66 said IF you have to use the warranty for repairs you start out the cost of the warranty plus deductible behind. Most people never come any where near having it work out in there favor. However like any for of insurance there is a definitely a "piece of mind" that is worth more to some people then to others. And for the majority of people who never have any major or any warranty claim there are a smaller group who had a catastrophic failure or a trouble prone car which the cost far more then the warranty.

Bottom line is for the vast majority paying for an extended warranty is a waste of money however there is already a couple people who while in the minority made the right decision to purchase one. Personally I tend to shy away from them in general, not just on cars. TVs refrigerators and the like as well.
