Default Few questions regarding aftermarket exhausts and resonator delete

I'm curious whether there's a significant difference between a standard exhaust and the one without centre resonator. I read threads about XKR, but they have more resonators so the difference in case of STR might be bigger.
Also, I'm wondering whether silencers from Miltek or Mina are chamber or straight through. I have custom made straight through silencers on the car and although the sound is nicer than stock, I would like to hear higher pitched tones as well. As I understand, I would need to get something like Flowmasters Delta 40/50 to achieve such effect. Or maybe, it'd be enough to just delete the centre resonator and eg. put x-pipe in its place.

michel, My STR exhaust is basically stock except for Magnaflow mufflers. I removed the resonators and replaced with an H-pipe...nice sounds but too loud for my highway cruising tastes so back on with the resonators. A Magnaflow X-pipe just after the cats is going in. I'm curious of its benefits and sound. I may delete the resonators if acceptable sound level with Magnaflow X-pipe. 2 1/2" pipe from cats to mufflers go on next, followed by crank and s/c pulleys, and ECU dyno tune. Hope this helped and please let us know what you experience too.

My custom built aftermarket exhaust has no resonators, it goes straight into an X pipe from the cats, then straight to the rear mufflers, it's just what I wanted, a bit more noise at idle and under throttle, but no droning at highway cruising speed.

Riski, do you feel the x-pipe smoothed her out and aids to quiet things down? I'm going for the Magnaflow X-pipe but still on the fence regarding removing the resonators. Did you rmeove the swide open throttle baffle in the lower airbox?

Yes, and Yes.....

The X Pipe helps and adds a bit of power, and makes it sound nicey nice......

and I did take the baffle out and running the stock box w/ K&N

I am currently running custom build mufflers and think of replacing resonator with either standard Magnaflow x-pipe or dual in/out Magnaflow muffler with Tru-x core. Don't want it to be too boomy if I go for the unresonated one.
Another question... I have never heard about lower airbox and throttle baffle removal... Where is it located, what does that do?
I might have another reason to tinker with my car during the weekend

michal, remove the airfilter...on the lower left (radiator side) of the airbox you will see a flap that is actuated to open while under full open throttle. You can remove it by unscrewing the screws holding it in place. This allows more air to enter the airbox giving crisper throttle response with just a little more air intake noise.

Goddam - anyone know if the X350 XJR's have this flap? If it does I'm so there!
I'll check it out myself when I can, but it's gonna be a couple of weeks

I have a custom x-pipe with magnaflow mufflers and it is definitely louder than stock with drone between 1500-2000 RPM...

I actually love the sound, at idle and above 2000 RPM, the sound is amazing...

Thanks 390hpstr, I don't know if I'd personally enjoy the "resonator delete" drone. I'm placing in the Magnaflow x-pipe but may replace stock resonator with separate higher flow aftermarket resonators to minimize drone. The new Jags use 2 1/2" exhaust pipe with separate tube style resonators. I'm wondering if they also come with an x-pipe?

Same here, Sports cats, X pipe and custom mufflers. A LOT louder than stock
and does drone between 1500 and 2000 rpm but the noise is addictive

stypernut, who did your remap? what size pulley (1.5 or 2.5)? What did the hi-flow cats do for performance and noice? Mina shipped out a 1.5 pulley and low temp thermostat and hi flow cats go in my 03 STR Monday. Your 05 looks mature but does business.
