All the suspension mounting points are weak on a BMW.
The diff mounts, the rear subframes tear out of them etc...

I watched Rob Levinson make them fail down the line when he built his 6 speed twin turbo 750i.

First, he tore the diff mounts. Beefed them up, Ripped the rear subframe right out of the body. Welded in reinforcement plates, and turned the driveshaft into a twizzler when it launched. He got some custom Carbon Fiber reinforced driveshaft, but that car is a beast.

Shame he moved UUC to Georgia, (although I cant blame him from a financial perspective), he was a cool guy...

Take care,
George

It's nit bad for both safty and power. I was expecting to see it at 10 on boost but not the case. For a street car I look for about 12 and my AF were pretty good untill about 5200rpm when it started going a bit more fat then you would want. As you add smaller pullys and up the boost I am not sure if it will lean out or the ecu will over compensate and it will become richer. I will find out as we go.

Just it was a lot better then I expected.

Not sure what you mean but yea the car is built to be stock. I have no doubt they don't want some guy screwing with the tune, but dosnt much matter to me. Mercedes wasn't wild about the nitrous bottle in my trunk either but hey it's my car

You don't want race teams screwing with tunes either. People who think they know are worse then those that don't in most cases. I have seen guys tear some things up in impressive fashion with "tuning" LOL.

No I meant the tune was meant to be 100% safe stock, no matter how badly someone flogged the car. I'm sure they could have gotten more out of that engine from the factory if they wanted to.

No manufacturer is wild about a nitrous bottle in any car LOL. I did watch a guy blow the composite intake manifold right off of a BMW m3 motor complete with the hood open and shrapnel everywhere on a Dyno spraying it... And that was with an NX wet kit.

Yeah backyard tuners can be dangerous... Even with a fully open / hacked ECU like the GM Ls series. EFI live and HP tuners make it seem like anyone can tune. I used to be of that mentality, till I tried to do it after we put the blower on my brother's H2. He got some "cool charger" setup without a tune on clearance for like a grand. After a couple days of putzing around with it, we took it to East Coast Supercharging and they got it squared away...

Take care,

George

Mike of Eurotoys e-mailed me today. He claims Eurotec and Eurotoys likely use the same ECU software and that this is the reason they both post a 30 chp gain (435 hp @ 488 lb/ft torque with cat back exhaust mod). He further explained that the lone customer (Johnathan Lusher) who wrote the testimonial for the ECU flash also sported a 1.5 pulley. He didn't state wether he had an exhaust mod. IMO, a 30 chp increase is pretty sizable for just an alteration to the ECU program. He wanted the mileage of my STR as a means to work up a quote on porting the blower. Mileage helps the porter determine during inspection wether a rebuild is necessary.

Wait, is the +30hp INCLUDING the 1.5 lb pulley and a catback? Cause that is prob what the car will be making with just those mods, seems like the ECU tune isn't doing that much of anything... Are those numbers adjusted for the crank, or @ the wheel numbers?

Unless you can raise the boost via electronic methods, most chip tunes can't do all that much as far as overall power, however they can dramatically change the way a car drives, by moving the torque curve lower and other characteristics. I know turner motorsport was famous for changing the dbw throttle settings in their maps so basically you were pressing on the gas more than you actually thought you were... SO the car "felt" a lot faster... especially from the butt dyno crowd.

Take care,

George

30 hp without other mods. The tuner also suggests driving normally for 300 miles following the ECU flash, whilst Johnathan Lusher in his testimonial; states being instructed to drive her hard for the first few hundred miles (?).

They quote up to 30hp gains at the crank for the ecu alone. It's reasonable that adding some timing and leaning it out especially for 93 octane could make 30crank hp on a FI car. I am sure driving and midrange TQ could be improved a lot.

It's just all speculation For now since there are no dynos or data to look at.

haha you bet me while I was posting. Got the windows tinted today and it looks so much better. Can't wait to get the wheels blacked out next week!!!

Dunno why all these guys like the blacked out wheel look but to each is own I guess

I'm with you on the tint... that makes the car look completely different!

If you advance the timing maps to not be able to dumb it down to 87 octane, then you'll prob make the +30. The issue with your car with the 3lb pulley and exhaust etc, is that it really needs a custom tune to shine.

Now as far as either pussyfooting it or thrashing it for the first few miles, I seem to remember a post by Brutal about how he had a certain XKR that he knew the customer beat on constantly, and the car would spin the tires all the way across the parking lot, where others wouldn't. SO... It may be an issue of how the car "learns" your driving style.

Take care,

George

The Ecu flash should be my last thing as I hope to have someone make adjstments for the mods and have an idea how A/F changes on the stock ecu as I add boost and just how much we need to lean it out. I was pretty shocked the A/F was as good as it was on my first pulls
It's good to see another quartz car on the forum. Mine is similar except with h&r springs, exhaust, alky injection kit and a snakebite blower re-gear.

I'm curious to see what nozzle you find to work the best on our cars. I'm using a 625ml nozzle and it might be a bit much. The eatons on mustangs typically respond well to a slightly oversized dose of alky injection but I don't believe my car is responding all that well. I'd like to try a 375 on there on the dyno and see which one works better. My car isn't putting out as much power with the blower re-gear as I thought it would; maybe the 625 is putting out the spark a little but I'm not sure. I experienced some spark blowout on the vette when using too big of nozzles, but I haven't had a chance to dial in my current setup (car's been in the body shop for over 3 months).

I have the low temp stat but haven't installed that one yet. BTW, should get my car back Monday or Tuesday so the fun will resume.

wow, really starting to look like my car, lol. My girlfriend suggested blacked out but I went with hyper black wheels. My current wheels are chrome. Pics will be posted mid next week of the ride with 19's. The tint does hlep the look quite a bit though.

Can't wait to see your pics, it sounds nice. I like the two tone grey black look. After the wheels I will do the rear lights smoked along with all the other markers etc...

I think the 625ml might be a bit large. I would bring all the Jets you have and swap them on the dyno and dial it in. You should see a pretty nice increase with the right jetting.
You know what type of boost numbers your seeing with the regear? Might need to think about gapping down the plugs dependant on the boost # dose it break up at all at high RPM with and without the alky on?

I hope to have mine here next week if it's in stock and installed as soon as I can get to it. I will then have some ideas of what jet works and how much it affects power and AF.

qwiketz, hows your STR runnin with the "Snake Bite" (re-gear and port/polish). Have you noticed a difference from stock? Do you have the "Mafioso" air intake elbow? Hi-flow cats back? You and ttwotees are the only "Snake Bite"'s here; but no dyno runs? I'm leaning towards a Eurotoys ECU tune/port/polish blower (presently run Mafioso air intake elbow, low temp. thermo., 3 lb pulley, hi-flow cats back).

No my tails are stock. They seem tinted even though its probably the insides are black to give it that darker look. I didn't do the tails with the nightshades cause I didn't think it would look to good plus we have inspections here and I think I'm going to have a hard enough time trying to find a shop to look the other way for my tint and side markers let alone if I had the tails darker.

vance, LOL! I'm not inclined to tint but admit it sure changes the look to "very cool". The painted calipers came out nice.
