Default Fuel door broken-is there a hack?

2005 S-Type R.

The end of the tab on the fuel door broke and has been lost. Is there a cheap or easy way to fix it so it will at least stay closed?

Do you have a photo?

I had a similar problem but I am not sure if yours is the same. I will share my post with you

Look at post #6 and #7. I have photos of my situation. If yours is similar, I did a quick fix hack to keep the door closed without replacing any parts and it took about 10 seconds

Yes looks like same problem. The end of the tab that clicks into the fuel assembly lock is broken, therefore it won't lock or close all of the way.

The gold coloured metal clip that accepts the tab is designed to flex a little bit and spread when the fuel door is pushed in and then closes around the tab. The quick and cost free fix is to bend the gold clip, widen the gap, so that the door will close. It will not lock in place any longer but it will close and open freely. You will not need to use the remote fuel door button in the car any longer. It will just manually open and close. That is what I did and it works perfectly fine.

I saw your thread but I don't understand the "fix" for it.

Ok at a closer look at mine, the tab isn't broken. So I will try bending the metal tabs a tad. I would like to see the "disc magnet" setup though. Can you explain or post pics?

The magnet idea came from an earlier thread dealing with the same issue. Here's one way...
But if there's room you can just attach a thin magnet to a metal place on your gas area that the door will also contact when closed.
