Sometimes on a gentle take off in my 2003 S Type 3.0 V6, my gearbox sticks in first gear.
I have only had this car for a month, so thought maybe it is still learning my driving style.
This only happens occasionally, and seems only when pull away with very little pressure on the accelerator (eg when behind another car) but not always! It seems to hold first until I back off the throttle, and then re-apply the pressure...creating a rather jerky takeoff!
The previous owner had the gearbox fluids replaced 15000 K's ago.
Any ideas on what I should be looking for?
I know there is no dipstick in the gearbox, so how do you judge correct fluid level?
I need to install a new O2 sensor, so thought I would check gearbox while it's on the hoist.
Any suggestions gratefully received.
Thanks,
Phil

Check the fluid level. Search the forum to find the proper procedure of have a good dealer/shop do it for you.

Mine sticks in first only when making a turn from a stop. It shifts normally on a straight takeoff.
I read someplace (maybe here) that this is a performance function of the ZF transmission.
