Hard Starting as of Late
Hey Gang!
Over the past several weeks to a month, I've noticed my S-Type 4.2 does not start in the normal time frame of the key rotation. I mean it would start right up when the key hit it's stop limit. It has been cranking on a little more before it starts. The other day, after sitting for only a few days, it would not start at all.....just cranked and cranked. I stopped several times and the last time I let it sit for about 20 seconds and tried it again, it started right up. Drove it a few miles and parked it about 15minutes and then it started right up as usual.
Does this sound like a fuel pressure issue? Fuel pump going? Fuel Filter clogged up? Any thoughts? Unfortunately I lost my job so I don't drive it every day like I used to so is that maybe the issue? As always thanks for your thoughts.

First thing to check is the battery voltage. With the ignition in the OFF position for at least ten minutes, there should be a minimum of 12.6 volts across the battery terminals. If not, try charging the battery overnight and retest it the next day. If the voltage is still lower than 12.6 volts, the battery must be replaced.
Fuel pressure should be between 3 and 5 bar depending on throttle position.

I checked the battery and it was 12.16. Charged it overnight and the auto-charge indicated fully charged, when checked it showed 12.58. It started like a champ as it always did, and it’s been sitting for four days. Thanks for the heads up on the battery, I’ll keep a closer eye on it.
If you don't use your car every day, consider getting a battery maintainer to keep the battery fully charged.
Given the voltage readings you have, you are going to need to replace the battery before winter sets in.

Will do, I have an extra Battery Tender I’ll get set up today. The battery will be eight years old this October. So it has served me well, gotta love the trunk location. Thanks again😊
