Headlamps don't turn off & instrument cluster does not work - 2000S-type V8
Bought my son a 2000 S-type V8 in early 2017. Running well, then in Mid-November, after driving the car, he turned it off. Headlamps wouldn't turn off even with car turned off and the instrument cluster stopped working. He can start and drive it but these conditions persist. He checked/replaced all the fuses in the fuse box on passenger side of car. He knows there are other fuses in at least two locations and those fuses all seem to be good. He is not driving the car much because of the headlamp issue running down the battery. If anyone has had a similar problem we would like to hear your resolution of it. Thanks.
What is the age and condition of the battery? Many of the electrical 'faults' discussed on these forums can be traced to a failing or weak battery.
With the ignition in the OFF position, there should be a minimum of 12.5 volts across the terminals after five minutes. If not, the battery should be replaced regardless of age.
