Feel free to start a thread of your own S-T-R if you like. Others will add reputable names, and you can keep changing your original post to keep up. You thnking all jaguars, only s-types, used or only new? what do you have in mind? There are so many out there, the list will evolve indefinitely.

well welcome to the club

i averaged 27.3 mpg running at between 72-75 on the highway during my last trip.

for high performance front brake pads, looks like Akebono's are pretty heavily used here. www.tirerack.com i have a set sitting in my trunk which were 106.00 from the rack.

Default hello

Thank you for all the welcoming i received
My biggest problem is that - i am currently driving from Acura Rl - its has been a absolute charm to drive(smooth and trouble free) its to the point sometimes you thing if the car had prolems it would give me a better reason to replace it

That said i am feeling very skidish getting this car

2003s had the most initial problems, if you could find an 04, you may be luckier

Dude, how the hell are you getting 27mpg? Are you going off of the computer average or figuring it out yourself? I am LUCKY if I get 23 on the highway, and that is driving conservatively. I couldn't imagine getting 27 unless I was on cruise at 72 in a freaking desert highway with no uphill grades.

i fill up the tank less then a mile from exit 312 of the PA turnpike. I fill up at the exit, exit 67 of the Pa turnpike. 27 mpg based on amount to fill up 9 gallons for 245 miles. Im telling you i do it time and time again. And it isnt flat by any means.

STR,
Based on your voicing concerns (twice) over being skittish about buying a Jag (and an "R" at that) and the fact that you currently drive an Acura (trouble free and relatively inexpensive to maintain), I would warn you against an STR - unless you're willing to trade the above attributes for character and performance.

The STR is a blast and fairly exclusive but it is also very expensive to maintain; i.e. the brembo disk rotors are $400/pair and expensive to fix when they need repair. Remember, there's a reason you can buy the car for half price when it's only 3 years old. Quite frankly, the same seems to be true with Mercs and BMWs. My '03 STR was difficult but I loved it so much that I got an '05, which has been completely trouble free.

Good luck with your decision...

Eric

What does the display in the gauge cluster say for average mpg if you reset when getting on highway?

Ya I do have a non-factory exhaust, and a K&N, just never imagined that the exhaust could be a 4-5 mpg difference! Holy Mackrel

Damn... I need to keep her under 80 on the highway.... I get a decent 21 combined, but the best I got on a highway run was 25. But, it was across PA on interstate 80 doing around 80.... Hmmmm, driving habit must change..... ugggg

Default Still more questions about 03 S-Type R

This is the thread I am looking for..

I too am thinking of a 2003 S-Type R.. It has 77k miles on it and from what I saw looks clean.

All you guys tell me all about this car. The Pros and Cons, things that go wrong with it, what to look for, etc.

I am not worried about doing the brakes/tires since that would be routine stuff.

I have an 04 X-Type 2.5 manual that I would trade in. And the only reason I am trading it in is because my wife cant drive my manual X and I think the price of the STR is pretty good. I am waiting to hear from the dealer about the car, and also whatever input you guys have..

Thanks,
