Hood Ornament Stolen
I've had my Jag officially for 3 months now, and some clown stole hood ornament. I have the 2002 Jaguar S-Type, and I recently purchased an ornament off of ebay with the correct specs and everything. The only problem is I'm not quite sure how to get the old piece (the base is still connected) off and the new one on without damaging the surrounding paint and hood. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry bout that...one of my fears is that mine will come up missing one day as well...
Anyway, simple procedure, open hood, and using pliers, inscrew the base counterclock wise. Top and bottom will separte. Done.

Help???
I'm a carpenter, but a customer thought I might be able to reattach his hood ornament.
I peeked under the hood, but couldn't see clearly enough to fumble my way through a solution.
The ornament is intact with the two wires coming out bound together by the aluminum? ferrule.
I realize there's a spring/ball that's missing but don't know if it has fallen into the car or been lost forever.
Can a person buy JUST the spring/ball?? Or does he need to wait til he has service done at the dealership??
Thanks for any help...
BTW, whose great idea was it to hinge the hood at the front?? When asked to reattach the ornament, I figured it'd be easy to do---pop the hood and the ornament base would
be right there in my face at eye level. Imagine my disappointment when the hood pivoted from the front.

Seeyouincourt28, Jag Genius has a great leaper replacement that is removable by you. When you park the car, just pop it off and take it with you.
To replace the one you have, take the 24mm (i think) plastic nut off the bottom and just pop it from underneath while having someone else hold the leaper so it doesnt slide down the hood once it comes off. They are tight sometimes.
Jaguar dummy......you are evidently not talking about an S-Type. As above, JagGenius has the greatest replacement for sale. Otherwise, you need to replace entire leaper.

Does anyone know if Jag Genius is still around and if his removable leaper for an S or X-Type is still available? I'm not on this site much, so sorry if this question is not up to par.

It is perhaps worth pointing out that the leaper is not type approved in UK or Europe.
It has been shown that a fixed item pointing forward on the bonnet of a car can cause serious injury to pedestrians in an accident.
I would recommend that you change it for a flat jaguar badge, just as John had done above.
