Cool I stalk previous owners on forums. Lol >:)

Just like the Title states!

Usually "after" I buy a car from someone, I join a forum, read up on stuff, and try to find the previous owner and read some of the threads started by them. 50/50 I find the person and for my STR I lucked out again.

Wish I did it before hand so I can read the good and the bad, usually posting on forums its " HELP, HELP HELP "

I got my STR From "Phlossn
" on the forum about a month ago. He hasn't been active for awhile, but reading his threads I see he had the trans rebuilt and the faults went away but he states the "lurch" seems worse, so that sucks!

Being new to JAG and STR's not really sure what a lurch is unless its the little gear downshift I feel when slowing down - I kinda like it actually and its not harsh at all. So maybe he ended up getting that fixed, dunno..

Is it just me who does this, or am I a weirdo? Lol

Corey,

Yes - that's weird!

I always write to the PO as soon as I get a new (to me) vehicle asking for information on any mechanical issues or accidental damage. It's rare not to get a reply and this often includes more paperwork for the vehicle.

Strangely, I've never had a subsequent buyer of one of my Jaguars contact me for similar information although I do always leave a folder of records with each vehicle.

That must make me a weirdo too.

Graham

Hi there Corey, doesn't make you weird, just clued up a little I guess, kudos to you.

Like Graham though, I keep ALL my docs for the car and have EVERY service receipt, every warranty receipt, invoices for every part ever bought, even have them broken down into years for 2007, 2008, 2009 and so on.

If / when I ever sell my car the next owner will be bombarded with useful info should they ever decide to go through it.

It is however, very unlikely to find this and I'm not convinced its something that would be waiting for me should I chose to go & buy a 2nd hand car

Welcome to the forum, how much mileage on your STR? When was the transmission rebuilt, do you happen to know?

Previous owner of my jag was a first-class asshat, and he was also on these forums, however briefly,

it was not easy to identify which member it was as he had so few posts, but I ended up finding him on here, and yes, of course, snooped through all his posts looking something valuable to maybe have learned about my cars history, of which there was plenty he left out,

Unfortunately, searching his posts didn't reveal much, and at this point, I've done so much work and tinkering with the STR, I've uncovered every and pieced together most of my STR's shoddy repair and accident history,

Graham,

I do exactly what you do. Whenever I sell a vehicle, the buyer always gets a folder full of parts and maintenance records, copies of my research, and any other documentation I've assembled pertaining to that specific vehicle. Over the past 30 years or so, this folder is usually the determining factor for whoever buys the vehicle from me....

I did write a nice letter to the previous owners of my wife's XK8. They were an older couple in Florida (late 60s / early 70s). I thanked them for their care of the vehicle while they owned it, and requested any documentation or information they thought would be helpful to me since I prefer to do as much of the wrenching as I can. Never heard a word from them, which really surprised me. I guess in these days of cyberstalking, some folks feel that silence is safer. Disappointing but understandable....

Search for Jaguar and lurch.

An early STR owner who purchased his STR new from Jaguar really got into the whole problem and his web site does about the best I have seen as far as bringing EVERYTHING about the "Lurch" to light.

He is off the deep end but when you pay what the STR costs new maybe he was right? I got such a screaming deal on a car I never figured I would own it just was not a big problem for me.

Some cars seem to never get rid of it. My 2005 STR had a little bit of it when I got it but doing the recommended software updates pretty well eliminated it on my car.
