Default Installed Magnaflow X-Pipe

Today Magnaflow X-Pipe (2 1/2") was welded on just after cats to 2 1/2" pipe to stock resonator, then onward with stock 2 1/4" pipe to Magnaflow mufflers. The X-pipe smoothed the rythm but lowered decibels of the rumble. I attribute the muted tone to the stock resonator which has an internal crossover channel.
Next: If removal of stock resonator makes exhaust too loud for my tastes then:Two 12" aftermarket resonators (to eliminate crossover channel to each resonator) similar to late model Jags with 2 1/2" pipe to Magnaflow mufflers. Will keep yas updated.

Get rid of the resonator, my car is not loud inside, even under full throttle!

Brutal agrees with you too, i.e. remove resonator. Tomorrow the remainder of exhaust is changing over to 2 1/2" pipe. I'll remove the resonator and drive it for a day or two to see how I feel about inside and outside decibels. If it's too loud for my personal tastes I'll slap on two 12" separate resonators. I can tell you this though, the x-pipe definitely gave her more hp + trq., and the sound is so sweet. Guys, it's a sin not to have an x-pipe!

LOL! "Telling me so" will probably happen. In the a.m. starting the STR is one of the most exciting times to hear her. The pipes and mufflers are empty, and when she comes to life it takes about 10 seconds for the cats, pipes, and Magnaflows to fill up. Those 10 seconds sounds so mean. Take off is just as exciting. The x-pipe causes a crisper throttle response, hp and torque peak comes on faster and stronger. Tomorrow is resonator delete and completion of 2 1/2" pipe to mufflers. If I'm ok with resonator delete then I'll have the replacement resonators sent back to supplier.

I have custom made read mufflers on my STR and today I got an 18" 5x8 Magnaflow muffler (dual in/dual out) with built-in x-pipe. Will report when I get it fitted. I guess it might be an option for people afraid of drone.

05str, I'll take pics of custom exhaust. An x-pipe is definitely a nice plus. michal, interesting to know your mufflers have built in x-pipe. I noticed they're long (18"), I guess to accomodate muffler and x-pipe? Please let us know how your set up stacks up and take pics.

Default x-type

Any reason not to go straight dual?

Straight dual exhaust splits the engine into two separate banks (2 four bangers), hense the "Blat" sound heard from this system. Exhaust impulses and gases will tumble down the pipe backing up into the mufflers then back up to the cylinders causing insufficient scavenging of the cylinders following power stroke. An x-pipe evenly mixes both banks, causing a smooth flow of gases along walls of pipe, improving scavenging of the cylinders= hp and trq. As for acoustics: you'll hear all 8 cylinders out of each pipe instead of 4, otherwise 16 cylinder accoustics.

I bought the 18" one because I wanted. Magnaflow also sell 4x9 11" and 14" versions. All of them have 2.5" core (even versions with smaller inlets/outlets).

Riski, this week the switch to 2 1/2" exhaust pipe will be completed. H&R Sport springs are on deck. Then comes the question of how to address an increase in boost....smaller pulley? or re-gear S/C ? Will a low temperature thermostat help or hinder? I'm fearful that I won't have a happy Fathers Day without knowing my STR's horse power and torque destiny.

Riski, what did you do "both" of? You both re-geared the s/c and went smaller upper pulley? I know you went to a 2.5 lb. pulley. What else did you do? Low temp. thermostat too? If you let us know the secret behind your 12 second STR one of us will lend you their MILF.
