Jaguar S type 2005 3.0 V6 Tempreture gauge cluster
Hi There,
I am looking for a help and have a question about the Jaguar S-Type 3.0 V6: When doing a cold start and turning the ignition to the second position (without starting the engine), the temperature gauge immediately moves to the middle, as if the engine is already at operating temperature. After I start the engine, the needle slowly drops and then gradually rises again as the engine warms up. Is it normal for the gauge to show normal operating temperature during a cold start, even though the engine is still cold? or i shoult have problem with the cluster needle. hier is the Link to the video on Youtube to see what i mean.
The OBD2 tempreture is allreday checked and it works how it should be working. that means the coolant tempreture sensor and the ECU should be working correktly i think so.
.I will be happy to get some helpfull information.
Thank you in advance.

I "think" what your seeing is the problem with Jaguar temperature gauges?
We don't really have a gauge it's an "indicator" and the needle has purposely been damped to stay in the middle of the scale for a wide range of actual temperatures. This is a fact and has been documented on this forum a number of years ago.
The theory is that Jaguar had way too may warranty claims because owners would see the gauge move as it's suppose to with different operating conditions. Get "concerned" and bring it in when nothing was wrong with the car. This is just a guess however.
You can read many peoples problems and they all say the gauge did not move to the over heat position until it was too late.
You are wise to monitor what's really going on and I use Torque Pro to read what the actual engine temperature is.
So yes it's operating as designed it's just a poor and not a well thought out design decision by Jaguar.

When the engine is started (cold) the gauge initially reads at its position when the engine was last shut off. The needle then moves toward the cold end to start a new reading. Perfectly normal for the S-Type gauge (mine does exactly the same slow dance); but it is a bit disconcerting when you first notice this behaviour.
