I know that car sealerships sometimes try to take advantage of women. For a lot of vehicles, I have a basic working knowledge, but not for this one. My car only came with one key. Is it true that I can only get duplicates at a dealership. They want to charge $145 for the blank. Then I have to come back (an hour and a half drive) to have it programmed to my car for $50. Please, enlighten me.

 

Yes, unfortunatley that is the case. It's a safety and control issue not being able to go to a locksmith and have a key made. But, if you bought it from a Jag dealer or any dealer they should have the business sense to program it fo free seeing how they only had 1 key for you.

 

Welcome to the family. Unfortunatley, the S-type key fobrequires the dealer for programing. If you bought your Jaguarfrom a Jaguar dealer they should provide you with another. When I showed up for the appointment I was asked for the title of the car and picture ID to verify that the car owner of the car.

I did not buy my Jag from a Jaguar dealer so I ended buying a used key fob off Ebay. I should have bought two, because the one I got from thewith the cardidn't work. I showed up with my remote that I purchased off ebay and the one given to me at the time of the car purchase. Long story made longer I paid two bills,for1 new key laser cut and two remote's programed at $100 a hour. Buy two remotesoff ebay take it to the dealer and just have them cut the key for you and program the keyfob. You can easliy take apart the key fob apart and set the working one back into the remote that works. It should save you about $100.FYI you must two remotes for them to reprogram the keyfobs.

 

I have seen some of the keys on ebay, but I was not sure what would work. I live in a very very small rural town. The closest jag dealer is over an hour away. The dealership that I bought it from is more of a "mom and pop" place. Are there blanks that can be bought on ebay? My key is the one that has the keyless entry and stuff on a separate key chain. Thanks!

Will a dealership send them to be cut. My dealership says that they send them off to be cut. Are there dealerships that will cut them on site?

I bought an 01 in December with only one key. It wasn't until I found this forum that I realized it had remote.

On ebay I bought aremote and the key from the ***********. they cut the key, programmed that and the remote for me for a cost of $180.00. Took them an hour to do

crittie u can in fact buy uncut keys off ebay, just they are a lot harder to find then the remotes, and like others have pointed out u might as well buy two remotes, because it costs the same to program one or two. hope this helps

 

my steaaaalership ( whom CLOSED Down after ripping many people off ) only had 1 key for me too. its just a key. so i unlock my door manually. i would of thought there would be a remote or something. eeeehh!!!

 

Go back to the dealership, complain yourass of about only getting a single key. How can someone sell you a car and not give you a spare. It is not your job to worry about getting parts for a car that you just bought. You really need to stand up here, dealerships will walk all over you if they can. But if you make a big enough stink they will take care of you. DO NOT BE A PUSH OVER> this is somethingthey caneasily fix. Tell them your a pregnant single mom and your hungry!!! Give em hell, they will give you the key without charge.
