I just purchased an 05 3.0. It only came with one key fob. I ordered one from transponder island for $140, and the local dealer said they will cut the key and program the key and fob for $50. Woohoo, I was afraid it would be much more after hearing some of the horror stories on here.

 

Is the $140 key and fob? Mind you still seems a lot can get on ebay in UK key and fob for £50 and cut for £5 which equates to approx $90 Programming I believe one can do by oneself.

 

Yes that is the combined key/fob. I still have some confusion about the programming. It seems there are a lot of people saying that the S-Types have to be programmed at the dealer. The Transponder Island instructions said you can program it yourself as long as you have two working ignition keys. I'm just going to take it to the dealer. I've got some service questions to ask them while I'm there anyway.

 

That seems pricey for an ebay key, 2003 onwards you need to head for the dealer for programming, earlier models you can do yourself.

 

I seen a Brand New OEM FOB with an uncut key for $81 w/shipping included on EBAY. I guess the previous guy didn't do enough searching

 

Yep, lesson learned. I should have done some more research. I was at work when I ordered it, and didn't want to be shopping on ebay, and wouldn't have time in the evening for several evenings. Also, all of the posts I had read, no one mentioned anything about being able to find them on ebay. I assumed they were more particular per model, and was afraid of getting the wrong one. But it looks like they use the same fob for serveral years/models. So, for anyone looking for a replacement fob, you can get them on ebay.
