Default Leaper issue

Dear Guys

Two weeks ago I got my much awaited S-Type R on a lorry from Western Australia. The power in that thing is unbelievable. So much so I managed to scare myself the first time I drove it.

One minor issue is the leaper on the bonnet was loose and appears to have come away from the adhesive which helped to stick it to the bonnet as well as the large screw nut.

I have two questions:

1. Would the car have been delivered with the leaper as standard or has that been added later? If so it appears to have been done not particularly well.

2. I have purchased a new leaper but need to remove the adhesive residue from the bonnet before I put the new one on. Does anyone have any tips for removing the adhesive residue without damaging the underlying paint?

Cheers, Russell.

The only country where you can be absolutely certain an S-Type would not have been delivered with leaper is the UK.

After that it becomes a minefield of individual country regulations and original owner's preference whether a particular Jaguar will have come from the dealer with one fitted.

For removing adhesive from where trim items have been fitted to bodywork, I use a combination of my wife's hair drier to first soften it and then her nail varnish remover to clean off the residue.

Two results. One, it's efficient at removing the adhesive without damaging the clearcoat and two, it drives her mad!

The leaper has a spring and nut to attach it? Maybe the base uses the double sided tape?

Mine is bolted on pretty good. When I hit the deer last year it sheared the leaper off but the base was still there and tight.

You can have a leaper or a Jaguar badge installed. Both look good. I did see a leaper on a XF and it looked out of place and just tacked on.

Ya, I was chatting things up with the service rep at the dealership and she said that the hood profile of the XF was all wrong for adding a leaper. Place it near the front and it points nearly straight down. Place it on a level place and it is back near the windshield.

She said that one customer bought one and had it placed on the trunk. At least it was on the right angle but it must have been weird to see!

Russell,

You might consider replacing the leader with a "Supercharged" medallion. See post #4 in the thread below.
