Looking at different exhaust note for a STR...I actually haven't heard the sound from my car, but I have spent some time in a stock STR...

Just change the muffler to a straight through design. Easiest mod and will help a stock STR breath a bit better without sacrificing torque. You'll like the sound.

Spent 20 mins searching and found Magna flow p/n 11386. I take it there's nothing out of the ordinary that'd I'd need to have it installed...

Has anyone considered getting some used ones from the yarde or a muffler shop?? Sure they're used, but who's going to be looking at them. Some late model cars like the Charger, Rusta..opsss, I mean Mustang do sound fairly good. Years ago, I had an '86 Olds 442 with a slightly warm 350 in it and had a couple of used Dynomax mufflers but they sounded very good from the start and got better as they aged.
The sound they make new will not be the sound as they age....

Chris, what pipe size are you runnin? 2.25 or 2.50? Are you runnin 50 state legal Magna hi-flow cats or 49 state legal hi-flow Magnaflow cats? Bacardi, pop on ChrisSTR's exhaust set-up for the best bang for buck exhaust system. I run the same.

Thanks. Crap, I just noticed I screwed up royally and bought a muffler based on a custom 2.5" exhaust one muffler system...Looks like I'll need to return it...

Edit: Anyone know if two (one per side) 22" long glass pack mufflers would fit?

I believe 22" resonators would be too long. You may be able to stick up to 16" up there (Hey keep it clean!).

Bacardi, use the Search Forum feature. Type in Chris's post: "BorlaFlow Exhaust". Here, you'll find the part numbers.

Bacardi, you can use the Borla 2.5 inlet/outlet...same guts, the installer will fit the pipe into the muffler.

thanks for your continued advice. Yeah, I guess another benefit is that if I ever want to upgrade to a whole exhaust (doubtful) I can keep the same mufflers...On the other hand, anyone know if you remove the res. and keep everything else stock, how it would sound?

Talking My setup

Remove resonator, add x-pipe and dual magnaflow with tips. Sounds great when you want to get on it and very low tone at idle and cruising speeds..

Hopefully this will be my last exhaust question...So, most any muffler with a body that's 14" (or 20" overall/pipe tip to pipe tip) should fit?
