Lost my only key fob last night at the bar or it was stolen. My car is still currently there in the parking lot. I've searched the forum and didn't find much. Will an automotive locksmith be able to help me today or will I have to order a new key? Unfortunately I parked in a private parking spot so the car can't sit there until Monday nor would I be comfortable with that if the keys were stolen. If anyone can give me some advice that would be great.

P.S. I have another key fob for an X-type but Im guessing it would do me any good accessing the car at this point although I know I can buy a blank key and have the fob reprogrammed.

 

The dealer can cut a new key with proof of ownership and your VIN. You do not have to buy a key from them, but with the time to buy online, then take it up there, you just might as well do that.

As for other locksmiths, I didn't have any luck finding one around Ft Worth...all declined to cut a jaguar key.

To start it with a new key, you will have to have it programmed..and that requires the dealer software and new key in the ignition.

If it were me, I'd have it towed to the dealer. At least you know it will be safe, and it has to get there sometime anyhow.

 

nycjaguar, h2oboy makes perfect sense...get her towed to Jaguar. Your auto insurance should pick up the tow and who knows what else...Jag will cut a key and program it with X-Type FOB.

 

So I buy 2 new keys and have them cut at Jaguar dealer. The next day I'm supposed to have it towed and I get call from the bar owner at 8:30 pm saying that someone returned the keys. Unbelievable..

 

I guess it is good news, get them all programmed and you will have a spare for next time.
