Give 'em a call

I'd offer but this stuff is way out of my comfort zone.

It works pretty well with traction/control / DSC, as that one only comes into action once a wheel is actually spinning, and that only starts after the ATB (Automatic Torque Bias) type diffs do there work first.
Well what I was wondering is if the DSC & traction control starts enacting it's control procedures based upon differing wheel rotations is this somehow not going to work properly?

I don't know how the Jag's system works with the standard differential but I thought I'd raise the question. With the Quaife installed it's going to slip less but you're still going to have differing wheel speeds and some slippage anyway. If it doesn't slip at all after such an install that would be terrific!

If I'm not mistaken it wasnt Quaife that did the installing and testing of this it was another shop overseas. It was Tom Lenthall at TLJaguar that got it to work thats why I was curious if they worked with Quaife to develop an LSD for the Stype or if they used one from another car and modified it or just installed plug and play into the Stype. If they did the one from another vehicle Quaife probably will have no idea what you are talking about.

@staatsof
On my car traction control is still running overtime, and is behaving (straight line) about the same as my previous clutch LSD. I'll take it that the ATB unit is biasing the torque quicker than the traction control reacts, so they are not working contradictive.

but i guess when you have the stock eaton you might not get slip at all anymore.

I hear you I'm just wanting someone to get ahold of the right people so we can get some feedback as I'm not able to call overseas. If no one finds out anything I may do the email since avos posted the email address.

Which guy are you referring to?
As far as I can tell, no-one has yet asked anything or been refused any answers so you would appear to be rather out of order!

Just a thought but you're driving a car which was designed and made here so a bit odd not to be willing to buy parts from here.

I'm not sure that there is any more info to give up...as far as I have been able to determine, this Tom guy took a Quaife-manufactured LSD and altered it to fit S-Types. In consideration of this, there is likely not a part number or other point of reference to offer you. As I understand it, Tom is the only guy in the world who has managed to fit an LSD...and, so far, he is also the only one in the world that can answer many questions about the part that he (in effect) created.

The part number of the original (unaltered) LSD is probably useless, considering that none of us know what Tom did to it.

The best info in this case is a phone number to speak to the man.

Default mods

If this guy Tom has modified the quaife to work, then he adds value to the process by figuring this out.
My questions to Tom is/are:
How much does he sell the 'modified?' quaife unit for?
Whats involved in swapping it into our pumpkin?
I'd also like to know that the mods are 'safe' as far as the diff longevity etc

Has anyone got an STR pumpkin around as a guinea pig? I'm familiar with Ford IRS 8.8's, but I know almost nothing about our stype diff.

Pete

Getting back to compatibility issues with the traction control and DSC. I've asked a friend of mine who's a gearbox systems engineer to comment on this. He's worked for several of the exotic car manufacturers in the UK. It should be interesting to see what he thinks.

My only concern: will the modified Quaife unit also work in the newer axle housing. By that I mean the axle housings that were replaced because of the known "Rear End Wine".

I'm sure that there's a lot of people out there who have the newer axle housings and don't even know it. Especially if they bought their cars used.

I emailed Tom yesterday and got a response today.
The unit we use fits into all S-Type 4.2's including S-Type R's. This is a unit that we have developed in house using a Quaife TAB Center. It's not a straight fit and we do have to do some machining etc to make it work. But we would be more than happy to supply you a diff with the Quaife unit fitted and fit this to your vehicle if required.

Regards

Tom

By this I'm gathering since he is saying that they supply the whole diff that maybe the diff housing has to modified also. With that I'm gonna have to wait since I cant even imagine what the cost would be to ship a diff across the pond. Maybe once I dig deeper into my engineering degree I'll build myself one for a project.

Shipping would be a LOT less than the special diff, I'd expect!
