Default Medaillion vs Leaping cat

I just gotta ask:

is the bonnet/hood medallion the dealer standard? Is the cat too much a target for the envious?

I really want to have that cat on the Catcar!

I think the leaper was an option depending on the destination country. Unless local laws forbid it, you could add one. There is even a thread on the forum where someone made the cat removable for parking in suspect areas. it was magnetic, I think.

I agree. Something just isn't right without that leaper. Sadly, the new models don't even have a place for them stylistically speaking.

I prefer the leaper on Jags, but they look a little out of place on the XF when I've seen them installed. Maybe its because the XF isn't really styled after classic Jaguar lines...

Someone on here has a black R with just a bonnet badge and it looks wonderful. When I get an R, I'll be promptly replacing the leaper with a bonnet badge.

i'm not a fan of the leaper and think it looks a bit cumbersome, but if you like it, get one, i think you can get spring loaded ones and ones that attach with nylon bolts, for pedestrian safety

I was wondering what the European Directive was about regarding the leaper. You mentioned the spring loaded one. I found one on line from Motorcars LTD; anyone with this piece - is it indeed legal?

You will probably have to check with your local department of motor vehicles on that issue.

When it comes to ornaments there are some that I like (leapers and Pontiac chiefs), and some that don't work for me (Dodge rams and winged VWs). I don't buy the notion of pedestrian safety. Pedestrian safety begins with not stepping in front of moving vehicles.

Not sure what the American one is like, mine was broke in the trunk so I braised the 2 pieces together. I grabbed a spare wandering through the stores in the UK as I have free access and it does indeed have a spring, but I think that's for fitment rather than safety.

I've got the "Jaguar 3 Litre" medallion on mine, and I think it suits the S-Type.

Here's what a medallion will look like. This is a pic of member searanch's Jag after the swap was done:
