Misfire on cold start / Misfire at 4500rpm
Hi all. I have been quiet for a long time as the S-type as been running perfectly...until last weekend. I now have a misfire on cold start up when auto choke engaged. The misfire seems to go away when the car warms up at idle but is evident when revving up to 4500 rpm. No warning lights are evident. I have on order a OBD II from eBay so this may shed some light on the code. From reading all of your wonderful informed experience here on the forum, it would seem that I am dealing with either intake or coil/plug problems! Your suggestions would be welcome!!
Also, can you suggest a supplier for plugs, coil packs, and the gaskets mentioned as I can't seem to locate these in the parts catalogue! Thanks in anticipation ...... Dirk

Hello Dirk the Dirkman. Sounds like a coil Dirk. Sorry man, yer call name cracked me up since "Dirk Diggler" was Mark Wahlberg's **** screen name in Quintin Tarrantinos' '"Boogey Nights". Check recent thread/post identifying best sources for coils. How ya all doing down under?

Good point and good thinking '99'. I will check again but the misfire seems to be more than just a rev limiter restricting the engine. Thanks for the feedback as I hadn't considered this! Dirk

OBDII - Errors Codes and Oil
Hi all,
Finally received the OBDII reader in the post from Hong Kong, best $6 bucks on eBay I have ever spent.
Main code being received is P0307 misfire on cylinder 7. After removing the coil, I noticed some oil in the chamber sitting at the base of the plus and around the stem. Checked a couple of other cylinders of the second bank and the same deal but to a lesser extent.
This suggests to me I need new Cam Cover gaskets and plug boss's and therefore may as well do both sides!
I note that there are also 4 grommets (2 each side) that may need to be replaced as I guess the whole idea here is to play around once and stop all leaks for the next 50,000 klms.
I did a coil swap changing over the (7) cylinder coil with (5) cylinder coil next to it after having cleaned out the spark plug cavity and the error code did not appear. Thank god my $6 OBDII saved me countless bucks from buying new Coil.
A question I have is, does anyone have a definitive cross reference of part numbers between Jaguar and Lincoln parts? Currently I purchase parts from BritishParts in the UK and have found them extremely reliable and very cheap when compared to prices here in Australia.
I suspect however that our US colleagues can source parts from Lincolns even cheaper given the origin of some of the Jag components. You feedback will be greatly appreciated!
Regards to all
Dirk!

Glad your code reader did the job. Mine paid for itself the first time too.
Keep in mind that the Lincoln LS with V8 engine used the Jaguar AJ and not a Ford based product. In looking at the on-line catalogues, it seems both cars used the same p/n coil. They're not expensive to start with ranging between $25. and $60. depending on brand name, but identically priced irrespective of which they are being bought for.
