New guy requesting feedback on tire wear issue and service centers
Hello everyone,
I am new to this site, and I wanted to begin by expressing my gratitude for all of the great information I have found here already.
I own a 2003 S-Type R that (despite its issues) I still believe is one of the best investments I have ever made. However, I noticed my problem while changing the oil a few weeks ago - front inner tire wear. So I naturally logged on here to check it out, and sure enough there was a service bulletin for toe modification.
My question is: has anyone had this modification done, and what was the result? i.e. if it actually worked to reduce wear, did it alter handling, etc. Also, has this ever been covered as a recall, or are we always expected to pay for it? And if not, must this be done at a dealership, or has anyone had luck at an independent service center? I cringe at dealership prices (owning a Jag only makes me a fine automobile enthusiast, not rich.
)
Likewise, I was wondering if anyone knows of a good non-dealership Jaguar specialist in the central New Jersey area.
Thanks in advance,
- Marty

Marty,
Our 2007 STR had problems with inner wear on the front tires. In fact, the original ContiSports were worn out at 10K miles. I had the dealer check the alignment twice because I didn't want to prematurely wear out another set of tires. Both times the dealer said the alignment was spot on.
So, based on information from this site and on tirerack.com, I had a set of Michelin PS2s installed. The PS2s are much quieter and smoother than the Contis.
The best part is we have 11K miles on the PS2s with no inner wear issues.
So in our case is was not the car, but the type of tires that caused the odd wear pattern.

Thanks Ron. That's interesting; I do use the contisports, and I've been hearing nothing but negativity about them. We'll see what happens when I take it in this week. I've heard good things about the PS2s; unfortunately for me they are summer tires - seasons are somewhat unpredictable around here, so I prefer all season tires.
hey marty, im just over the commodore barry bridge, and i have an alignment machine at my disposal. Anyway, i have some inner wear issues also, as soon as my torque converter is done, ill be doing an alignment myself. Ill let you know how it goes, and if you want to shoot over the bridge one day we can throw it on the rack and see where it is set at.
I am having an issue with the front brakes pulsing, and I find that the front tires are cupping on the inside. Do I need an alignment? or just a tire replacement. Also, I probably have to replace the rotors and pads. Is that correct?
