oh oh battery post shorted and key no longer works
I was trying to track down my battery drain problem and inadvertently touched the ground lead to the negative post with an ensuing arc when I was hooking up the recharged battery. Now the car will not wake up to the key command. It does make a clicking sound when connected up to the battery and that is it.
Drain is now down to what it should be! Looking for a silver lining I guess.
I am hoping that i just blew a fuse somewhere but haven't figured out which one yet. I took a look at the cartridge fuses but nothing is obviously blown.
Any prime suspects? Please, not a module!
Bob
p.s. it is raining buckets right now. suits my mood.

So Bob we need to know your year make and model as none of that information is in your missing signature much less your profile. If you want help you have to fill in the blanks!
I thought I had already done this but I have now re-edited my profile. car is a 2000 S type 4.0 litre
Model & year are in your profile but it's much easier for everyone if you show it in your Signature.
I've moved your question from X351 to S-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Touching the ground lead to the negative post caused a large spark? This infers that the positive lead was already connected. This is the normal ans correct way of connecting a battery.
The only way a large spark would be created under such conditions is if there was heavy current draw or possibly a short.

Panic over. I finally remembered that I had two fuses still out from my trouble shooting. Number 20 fuse [10 amps] and number 2 fuse [5 amps] in the primary junction box [passenger compartment fuse box]. Number 20 fuses the Generic Electronic Module. As soon as I re-installed it everything came back on. I can now relax and watch the Blue Jays play Texas.
