Lo and behold, Geico coughed up a check to me yesterday. Paid in full. Case closed.

Jon,

I think you and your lovely wife deserve a really nice meal on GEICO's nickel.

Mike,

We have a surprise 80th birthday luncheon planned for my mom a little later on today in Greensboro. They don't know it yet, but Geico will be picking up the tab....

Here's a little update on an old thread:

Our S-Type's unfortunate accident occured exactly one year ago today. A bit more than $13,000 in repairs (all covered by Geico, the other driver's insurance company) and 16,000 miles later, we still enjoy the car. I was concerned about the tire treadwear pattern being thrown off as a result of the accident, but all tires continue to wear evenly with normal front-to-back rotation at every oil & filter change. I still believe that the A/C compressor premature failure this past May was related to the severe jolt that the car received in the accident, but I cannot prove it so I've been unable to add the cost of that repair to my original subrogation claim against Geico. I did use a portion of Geico's diminished value money that I sued for in small claims court back in January to replace the faulty compressor though, so there's some consolation in that regard....

So all things considered, I think we've been fortunate with this S-Type thus far. The car just turned 48,000 miles (I bought it in December 2008 at 18,000 miles) and all is well with it at this point (knocking on wood as I type). As long as it doesn't turn into a wallet-sucking maintenance hog, I think we'll keep it. Time will continue to tell....

WOW Jon, a year already, time most certainly flies! I am glad to see that all is still well with your S. The only hurdle I see in your future is the dreaded ZF sleeve replacement, but as one of the ones that has done this job as you know, its easy if you have access to a lift, and even if you don't, just takes longer to level out the vehicle.

Congratulations Jon. I am cautiously optimistic that your car will go the distance. I have 68,000 on mine and the only thing that I have really done is drain the tranny fluid and change the oil a couple of times. In addition, I changed the front pads, which took me whole hour to do total.

I absolutely love driving my 2003 and am counting on it to give me years of service. As time passes, if I am able to save any money, I will be acquiring another. These cars are too good for the money.
