Default Poor Jaguar Quality

This is just a general question. Is it my perception or does Jaguar in general have really unusual terrible quality issues. My other car is an '07 Corvette which has been flawless from a quality standpoint and my '06 S Type R has been a continuing nightmare since new. Reading the forums for each of my cars clearly indicates serious and widespread quality differences between the two. Just curious.

I think it scored better than BMW and Mercedes at one point in the JD Powers survey.

What's been the issues on your 06 STR?

I spend the other half of my life on the various Corvette boards and am appalled at the apparent poor quality of those cars. The whining and moaning per capita is 10 fold worse than here.

My S-type is the most reliable car I've ever owned (touch wood) and this includes MB, BMW, Audi, Volvo, Honda, Infiniti and yes- Corvette.

What's specifically wrong with your Jag?

I also have an 06 STR and would say that it is a very good car and seems to be well built.
For a "high end car" as some would call it, it spends far less time in the shop than my friends with Audi's Bimmers and MB's, most of these guys dump their cars quickly after the warranty expires and the repair bills start to mount. Some have switched to Jap cars now. I must say it is a tough sell getting anyone to go for a Jag,but being the only one with a Jag is nice.

i dont find that either and 2nd mikeys response on Vettes. For the most part, many of the regular failures I would really deem normal wear, tear, and age. Plastics being the biggest issue. But then all manufacturers ahve gone to plastics along time ago. I wouldnt hesitate to buy any Jaguar made after 94 except the Xtype. Thats just a POS that is the MOST EXPENSIVE JAGUAR TO OWN, and yet the cheapest to buy. go figure

Appreciate the comments. Just some of the issues with the STR first 30K miles:
Replace the CAT Conv
Replace EGR
Replace thermostat
Three sets of front tires Prorated warranty (Conti's)
Front brakes at 17K
Seat belt fault Replace module
Seat belt fault Short in drivers seat motor
Defective passenger seat belt
EPB locked up while driving

If all this happened below 30,000 miles it should have been repaired under the Jag factory warranty at no cost to you.Consider yourself lucky.
The tires are not Jag's fault and the brakes on the STR don't last long depending on your driving habits. More like 20-25K would be norm.

Brutal hit the nail on the head by mentioning the inferior plastics in these S-Types, especially the well-known coolant overflow tank issue. Some of the original factory gaskets have also caused problems, but this issue is solved with better-quality gaskets once the original ones start to leak and are replaced....

Jaguars suffer not from poor quality, but from poor maintenance professionals. For some reason, Jaguars have this myth-like reputation for being difficult to work on, so many mechanics won't touch them, and most of those that will simply don't exactly know what they're doing. Sure, they sucked in the 70s and 80s, but what car didn't? And before that, you had Whitworth spanners, but modern Jaguars are fine automobiles. Disregarding oil, tires, and a battery, I've put less than $500 into my 01 3.0. The best part of all? This forum!

This is my second S-Type and I have had many similar problems between the two...

Above the window trim clips breaking (both)

Tranny squawk at WOT (both)

When the driver window button is pressed to go up, on occasion, it only goes up 80% of the way, then stops and rolls down 10% (both)

The auto driver/steering wheel entry/exit auto-position not working (both)

Squeaking belt, happened after I had the 3lbs pulley installed (STR only)

HVAC fail (base)

Haunted sunroof button (base)

The tranny "grunt, grunt, grunt" sound between 60-70MPH (base)

Keyfab stopped working (base)

Excessive inner tire wear (base)

Coolant leak (base)

R2D2 creaking sound when turning (base)

kinda off topic, but i greased my driver window cables and pulleys, and the window is friggin perfect now. just saying

EPB replaced, thermostat replaced, torque converter replaced (warranty) Driver headlight replaced, and R badges replaced.......... over 3 years that i have had the car. You do not want to know what the 06 escape has cost us in repairs and maintenance........wayyyyyyyyyy more than the Jag, thats for sure.

Default Unusual terrible quality problems???

Is this guy baiting us, or what? I now have 106,125 miles on my
06 S 4.2 NA. Major items replaced were 1 cat converter, and the
transmission cooling lines: the former under warranty, the latter
on me. The car has never let me down...ever!

I have friends that have vettes...actually had, is a better
term. One friend commented that if they built the interior any
cheaper, it wouldn't exist.

"Unusual terrible" quality problems? What the hell does that
even mean?

Every car has it's ups n downs, to say Jag's have "really unusual terrible quality issues" is to say that your driveway gets more wet when it rains then the guy down the street.

Just because you notice it on yours.

Appreciate everyone's comments. Please understand I asked a question and I am not "baiting" anyone. Looking at the record for my car at 30K it is reasonable to believe that my car has an unusual amount of quality issues. All I was looking for was a comparison from other owners. The Vette, which was bought the same year, has never been in the shop other than routine maintenence. Maybe I am just lucky with one and unlucky with the other.

That's "initial" quality. What a laughable term. While the European luxury car makers suffer at the hands of JD power, they tend to hold up better after 10, 15, 20 and 25 years old then anything from Asia and the US.
