Sorry acidently posted on jaguarsmg1 post any way had the car serviced the mechanic had problems moving from park to drive when he pressed the brake pedal he was unable to move to drive and at the same time the brake light did not come on. eventually he got it into drive he said it could the the brake pedal switch or brake servo.I was wondering if I could get some electrical cleaner and clean the switch to see if that helps before start spending money. My car is a pre face lift str opinions welcomed

 

Are you saying it intermittently works ? I'm quite sure there are two peddle switches , one for the brake lights and the other for the j gate release solenoid so I'm un sure How the brake lights not functioning was related , surely you could bypass the switch to see if the solernoid does its thing . Cleaning connectors and switches can do no halm ! That's a good place to start .

 

yes it has been intermittent but getting worst I press the brake pedal the red p light will continue to flash while the p is flashing with the pedal depressed the brake lights are not on after pressing the brake pedal several times p stops flashing I can then select drive and if I look in the rear view mirror I can see the brake lights on. If I put the shifter back into park the same thing happens again what ever the problem is it affects the break lights and the ability to move the shifter from the park position.A few months ago I did remove the j gate the get a bolt that fell in the compartment while fitting a new stereo unit got the bolt with a pair of long nose pliers when I put j gate back the problem stopped for about 3 months but gradualy started again
