Default programming keys

OK so dealer reckons I need to go back to them to get my new key programmed. Sure they are telling the truth but weird as I did programme the key on my X. Out of interest anyone tell me the difference between the 2 systems and why it is that the dealer needs to programme the key for the S Type?

They are different!
If you look at this link you will see that it states that s type must be programmed by the dealer, Why? I don't know!

I'm going to say this much to the dismay of many of the X owners, but the S-type, XJ, and XK models all have better security systems. Sorry X guys.

x type remotes(transmitters) and xj remotes and xk remotes can be programmed by owner...thekey (transponder) all have to be programmed by the dealer..
