Default pulley loose, 2003 S R, 125000km 4.2 V8.

I have just acquired a rescue car. a 2003 S R with a few problems.
The first and most serious is a loose pulley. It is still attached to the car, but off the crank. That is the reason the car has been parked for two years. It was re-fitted by a friend of mine, but has come off.
I have studied the net, and found one other case where it has happened. I don't know if that was refitted long term successfully.
I would like to hear from others if they have suggestions.
I plan to remove the existing flywheel and get a new split collet (?) and fit again.
It looks to me as if the collet could have been having a too small slit in it, preventing it from shrinking/collapsing and gripping the crankshaft solidly. I would also apply a bearing grade Loctite to the assembly and torque to specs.
Any wise words?
I will not throw a whole heap of money at it before this has been sorted.
The car has been parked the best part of 3 years but starts and drives, obviously without power steering, generator and water pump.

That's it for now. Thanks.!
