Anyone know if the x type mirrors fit on the 2003-2008 s types?

 

After your question I just walked out the door to look at my 2004 S-Type 3.0L and my 2004 X-Type 2.5L, which are standing there side by side:
Indeed, I never wondered about that, but they are exactly the same.
However, I suspected this already, as you can buy chrome-covers for those mirrors (I saw them for AUD$50 a pair) - and those covers are the same for X-Type and S-Type...

 

Awesome thank you for the quick reply. After closer inspection it appears the painted cover and mirrors are the same however the bolts that hold the mirror assembly to the door are positioned different. Also I must say I do prefer the smaller rectangular mirrors from 00-02. Now the question is would the 00-02 s type mirror assembly fit on a 03-08 s type which is highly unlikely since if I remember correctly there is a lot more plastic on the newer ones

 

Looks are deceiving.. - obviously...
So yes, X and S-Type mirrors 2004 look the same, but I googled now and found:

The mirrors are not the same i'm afraid.
X-Type has one mounting bolt, S-Type has three.
They look the same externally but they aren't.

I do not know anything about the S-Types before the second facelift (2004).

 

I had another thought about this:
Since it is just the mounting bolt arrangement, which differs between X and S, maybe this section, which is different, can be swapped when swapping the mirrors...
It is possible that I will remove the mirror from my X-Type in about 1 week (to re-paint it). If I do, I will check, if this thought above is viable.

 

As announced in my post just above - precisely one time: Exactly 1 week since my last post, I can show you now the difference between the fixing-mechanism of a S-Type and a X-Type mirror 2004, and I can say now that I cannot see a way of "cross dressing", i.e. putting X-Type mirrors onto an S-Type and visa versa.

The "base" with the fixing mechanism cannot be separated from the rest of the mirror to interchange those parts either...
