S type Key buttons / center locking works intermittently
hi again kind people, and im verry sorry to start a thread on this, after it's most likely been discussed a million times.
my 2003 s type's keys are having their own schedule regarding operation. one has quit its job completely, and the other one works intermittently
By intermittently i mean that it works for a few days, then (randomly?) stops working for a few days. ( i tried switching the frequencies trick, and didnt work in my case).
This intermittent issue i've experienced for 2 months now
Also, when it's functional, the lights button doesnt work, at all... (i did happen to work three times since i had the car) and the lock button works only if preessed really hard !
i did change the microcontacts (buttons) on both remotes, and i had the same results with the buttons as aforementioned... Oh yeah and the other key is still retired even after the new microcontacts...
I know, the easy solution is getting new keys from ebay, but the laws here will have me pay lots of taxes for every atom imported.
So, does it sound like the transmitter is giving in its retirement papers?
Well it's up to you?
I have screwed around with replacing the membrane switches and will tell you that it can work but in the long run (Which is where your at with a 2003 model car!) the entire FOB needs to be replaced. They are a high use/wear item. Even the metal key itself wears with use.
Your experience with repair is the same as mine. It works sorta and sometimes. NOT what you want for your car keys.
Sorry but I would recommend getting new FOBS even if that's hard top do where you live.

thank you, i might have to clear the fact that my repairment didnt change anything. i thought the buttons were bad, but after replacement, it does the same thing. so it must be something else . i think its the transmitter
Update:
Still had my key lose signal a few times since then, and also today... here is how i made it work:
Got to the car i wanted to Unlock it and key was not working.
I placed myself near the driver door,
i held the key in both my hands and with the thumbs i was pressing the lock and unlock consecutively (not concomitant), (lock Unlock Lock Unlock and so on).
After 10 seconds the key began working.
You can also do this if the key stops working when you want to Lock the car.
Also
-Still my full beam button on the remote doesnt work. (Only if pressed extremely hard in certain spots haha)
-Still my buttons work only when pressed hard, and I've changed the micro-contacts (buttons)
My local jag dealer asks for $200 a key.
Any good options on ebay?
UPDATE
Hi!
i have good news, and as i said i will post the same here as well since there are a lot of people with this type of problems that include hard working buttons or specific dead buttons, even though they replaced their micro contacts.
Today i dropped my key and i had to change a microcontact (button) that ceased to work.
While i was there i applied flux on all connections and used a 40W soldiering iron to refresh all connections including the chips, resistors and other small parts.
i had problems with my panic/lights button so i bridged the bottom left connection to its trace on the board, next to it.
key works wonders now. All buttons work and they work soft and with ease.
so my problem was some bad connection, most likely a cracked soldier point? Maybe.
but if you have those aforementioned problems with your fob, just reflow the board and voila
Hey elDarius, waaaayyyyyyyyy off topic. In 1972 two buds and I had driven from West Berlin where we'd just picked up three brand new BMW R 60/5 bikes at the factory. In Cluj we parked the bikes on the street, got lunch, came back to a MASSIVE human traffic jam -- kids and just... people mesmerized by these three gleaming icons of Capitalist yahoo-ness. Three streets blocked solid. (Iron Curtain time, of course). Seeing we were looked like filthy bikers, people parted to let us through just as the polizei arrived to get us the "move-on".

duuude thats so cool! keep living that lifestyle! very inspiring, you just made me go on another trip
Dropping the key fob too many times can cause broken solder joint that it’s almost invisible to see so you’re probably on the right path to creating this problem

yea drops and age, but no one could told me a reflow can fix the hardly working remotes, so now im telling others
