Default S-Type Remote Programming

I purchased a 2nd remote for my 2000 S-Type. Can I program it myself or do I have to take it to the dealer?

Sincerely,
snooktarpon

I'm afraid it will be a trip to the dealer to get it done.

How much would it cost (estimate) to have the dealer program me a new remote? I have a 2003 s type and only one remote key, I want another one to be on the safe side but want to know what I may be paying, thanks

It cost me 98 bucks to have my remote programmed at the dealer. To buy an extra remote from them would have cost me around $300. I'd buy a remote off ebay for way less then that then make the trip to the dealer and have them program all remotes at the same time. It will only be 98 dollars for all. (Not each).

Originalkeyless.com has them cheap. Bit safer than ebay.

I also got one key when i bought my Jag.

Will the 02 and up switch blade style key fob/key work on a 2001? like this?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNCUT...em360039611111

Would that work? IF so would a dealer charge me a million bucks to cut/program it?

Thanks!

The key part will undoubtedly work but unsure about the FOB. An old tech on here(Envy), once told told us that it would work, but I never bought the key and tried it out. Who knows if it'll work or not.

what would a dealer charge to cut that key and program it? Having only one key and fob for my car kinda worries me.

I think the cut is free if you buy the key from them, but more than likely they'll charge you 1 hour of service. Try to get the key programmed at the same time. BTW, the 1 hr of service is about $120

We charge $3.50 for the cutting of the key and 1 hour to programme all to vehicle.
The flip key and remote will definitly work. Have programmed many of them to S-Types. It takes a little while longer to recognize it though....so someone who isnt in the know may just give up and say it cannot be done. Anyway...he is getting paid an hour....so if he says it cannot be done, make him keep doing it....lol. Get your moneys worth.
