Unhappy seat belt retractor

My girlfriend, without asking me, put some kind of pad on the seatbelt, and in the process managed to get the belt twisted and inside the door post/cover.

How does the plastic panel come off, and is there a way to release the retractor to pull the belt out and fix the problem?

thanks

Just give the belt a half twist and push/pull it through, it's a bit fiddly but if she managed to twist it you'll be able to untwist it

Default more info...

Wish I could. It was folded over and I though if I let it retract a bit and then pulled it out I could fix it. Unfortunately the folded over part is inside the pillar and the belt won't pull out. Its stuck.

Default fixed

I finally took some time at lunch today to compare the drivers side with the passenger side that was messed up. Somehow, she had the strap completely twisted where it goes through the metal loop at the top, and then down into the pillar.

I untwisted the part going into the pillar and it stopped locking and released, which proved to me that it was twisted going through the metal loop.

Man was it hard getting it untwisted through the loop. It is well designed to prevent getting twisted. Finally got it untwisted and all is fine, moves freely.

Makes me wonder how she twisted it in the first place. It must have been a lot of work!
