Default this seems odd.. any thoughts?

i pulled off valve covers to replace them and the plug seals and there is no gasket seal on the VC's.. just a dab on 2 tabs on the gaskets themselves....looks like just the gaskets themselves are the seal... ive not seen this before

also.. i took off the snout of the SC and am doing a thorough SC clean and oil change.. the SC snout marries to the SC as well with no gasket... its bare metal to metal....strange considering it keeps oil in. Im wondering if I should re-assemble with some sort of gasket seal?? but maybe not mess with stock for a reason ???

The tolerances are precise enough to not permit nor require gasketing material.

Yes I would agree. Follow what the factory did. We don't have anyone reporting SC oil leaking so they must have done a good job sealing it in.

Another tip from your other thread. The EGR valve and tube have failed for several people. I would very strongly consider replacing both of them while you have it apart. You have a 2003 which is the year we are seeing the EGR trouble with. Maybe just because it was the first year or maybe just because they are the oldest STR's we don't know yet.

My guess is that it because of time and miles so the rest of the STR's will start seeing this failure in the future.

Third hits the mark: Jag eventually produced an upgraded version of the EGR tube with its larger diameter and beefier metal. I have this on my 03 STR.

That's good info bfsgross! Any idea if Jaguar ever installed the improved parts during the production run?

It's pretty much says there is a problem if the factory upgraded the replacement parts.
