Sell S-Type ?
Hello, I haven't been on JaguarForums much in the past few months due to being on a Maserati forum....I gifted myself one of my dream cars this past Christmas a 2007 Maserati Quattroporte with F1 transmission absolutely LOVE IT !
As I look at my driveway and see my S-Type all lonely begging to be driven I'm wondering if I should sell it as I don't drive it no more...just every once in awhile to get the wheels spinning. I said I would keep the car till she or I died when I first bought it
but if it's just going to sit there 98% of the time might as well sell if I can. I didn't just abandon it I still wash it every once in awhile polish/wax and put a car cover over it.
What I'm wondering is what's a good selling price ? Let's say you're in the market for a used vehicle what would you be comfortable spending on my S-Type based on the following details:
2005 Jaguar S-Type 4.2L V8
95,500 Miles
Engine Oil & Filter changed Every 3K miles or every 3 Months.
Transmission Pan/Fluid/Sleeve changed less than 5k miles ago.
Recent Cabin and air filter changed recently.
New Spark Plugs less than 200 miles ago.
Has fair amount of tread on tires.
Interior is in excellent condition other than the minor wear on drivers seat everything looks new.
Has aftermarket 12" 600W Kenwood Subwoofer & Amplifier
No scratches, 2 very small rock chips, 2 small door dings.
What would you feel comfortable buying this S-Type based on the details from a private party ? Probably a hell of a lot less than the 8k I hope to get lol If I get less than 7k I'll just try to enjoy it, but that's hard when you have a Maserati next to it
...but the S-Type is more fun than your average everyday cars though.

I guess it must be the styling and trident on the grille since they both have the same displacement engine producing nearly similar horsepower and torque. Both the Quattroporte and the S-Type are fitted with the identical ZF 6HP26 gearbox, so this is also familiar territory.
Spares for the Maserati can be quite pricey, and unless you can work on the vehicle yourself, it may be smarter to drive the S-Type and reserve the Quattroporte for those special occasions...

I'll tell you this my S-Type V8 non R takes off quicker than the Maserati...but I'm sure it's due to weight even though the Maserati is rated at 400HP.
Yes there is Quattroportes with the ZF 6HP26 gearboxes but after test driving one with the F1 Trans I couldn't go for the ZF.
F1/Duoselect transmission is a manual transmission but without clutch pedal or stick...it has paddle shifters...it does have a clutch though..that will end up costing me about $5k when it needs replacement. Also has an automatic mode that...well...changes gears automatically but that's boring
Maintenance and repairs are expensive but I knew that before buying the vehicle.
I've changed my mind a bit...I'll use my S-Type for short trips to the grocery store and things like that and use my Maserati for nice little lengthy trips (20+miles)....buttttt if someone comes to me wanting to buy my S-Type for an amount I'm comfortable letting it go for...well I'll have to let it go. I'm sure I'll miss it but why not let someone else enjoy it more than I will. Just because I got a Maserati doesn't mean I don't love the Jaguar brand no more...I still LOVE it...Love how the new XE is looking...Upon its release I'm going to schedule a test drive if I like the feeling/handling/power I might pick one up.
In my area, Alabama, your car in pristine condition would bring about $9675. Mine is 5 years older with half the mileage. I wouldn't sell it for less than $12,000 (I turned down $9000 today). These models can't be replaced easily, especially the good ones. I had a Mas once. Glad it is gone.

I replaced a broken solenoid mechanism on an F430 for a customer who, in his words 'missed a shift when the tranny was cold' for over 8000$US. I sincerely hope you have a better experience with the DuoSelect.

Keep it! Would you leave that Maserati at a mall? Or have some haters ding it at a Church parking lot (I've seen THAT happen). Your ST, like Dave's above, look like new. I use mine as a daily driver - but long trips are spent in a F-150. A Maserati is not a "Shuttle Craft." I got clowned out by some coworkers from out of town when they came in. They said I need a a salary reduction because I drive a late model Jaguar. They shut up when I tell them that the Cat is 13 years old. Still a prestige ride. On top of that, no one wants to offer close to retail for it. I repeat: Keep it!
Sorry, Tony, but that is correct. I don't have to invent anything, although you having dinner with Tricky Dick seems buried in comedy.
You are right. I advertised mine in Atlanta and got calls, not offers I wanted. A lot of used car dealer/hucksters tried to get it for nothing. I think you also have to think about what you can buy if you did sell it. You would most likely not be able to replace a jag in excellent condition with another at a lower price, so why trade it off for a Ford or Toyota? The other advantage we have is we don't have to sell it, so don't bend a dime. Stick a monster price on it and see what happens. I can always drive my chevy and will continue to do that. About the only car I won't try out is a Chrysler/Dodge product. Had enough of them. With more than one car to drive, mileage is much lower.
Remember, all you have to address (Besides the Achilles Heel timing tensioners) are items that dry rot in the South Eastern climate (OK, and those near 6,000 pollen counts - which reminds me - replace that cabin filter....) because of the low mileage. Even at double that mileage, most of the heavy lifting has most likely been none - and all that's needed is some preventative maintenance. Compared to our cars, try to find another one as minty as the examples here - at a reasonable price!
$3900 good condition, 4700 excellent

I don't know seems high? My 2005 STR with 111K miles. Perfect paint, interior. All options and chrome Vulcan wheels. Many things replaced for looks only.
Wanted to trade for a XFR and I was offered $3K and told to try and sell it on my own. Dealer even said the car was mint but he could only get auction price.
If you guys can get anywhere close to those prices. I would grab it quick!

Here is the latest charade offer. It is a total BS offer. This clown hasn't even seen the car, but I moved it to Birmingham CL and had two stop by tonight and a few of these silly emails.

I don't know anything except this. For many, this car is an ego buy on the low end of the money scale. (Under $25,000). Not much repair money in pocket, and with lower mileage, no leaks, upgrades, and a clean carfax (Only one owner until me), there is a possiblility of a good profit from a sale. If it doesn't sell, I keep it. I like the car just like I like my Chevy. Although I am in advertising and marketing, my brother is a superstar in automobile restoration as seen below. They don't fix em up, they remanufacture these old cars. This is a 1966 Comet Cyclone GT exactly as it looked the day it rolled off the assembly line.
