Default So...why do you have an S Type?

There are lots of choices out there, especially nice cars in this price range. Why not a BMW? Infiniti? Benz? Lexus?
For me, I inherited mine from my Dad after always loving the Jag curves and lines.
What was it that pushed you over the top toward the Jag?

In all honesty, I had dragged Mr GoKitty to a wholesale lot on Valentine's weekend to look at mini-vans (impending grandparent-hood made it feel neccessary) and there was my gorgeous car sitting there, in better condition, lower mileage AND lower price than the "best" minivan on the lot. I was 'forced' to test drive it and Mr GoKitty said he had to buy it because the look on my face was totally worth it.

I got an S because at the time (and still) i think it was the best looking car on the road.. And, it turned out to be a good trade-in for my XF.

Laurie always wanted one. An R would have been nice but she has a lead foot so we will probably save on tires and speeding tickets!

Styling, and the performance of vehicle. If you have kids, and need a 4 door, are somewhat vehicle savy, and dont mind turning a wrench here and there, i dare you to find another 4 door vehicle with the performance and style of the s-type.

The car is classy, it performs well (in all 3 trim levels) and can be had very easily now with the pricing seen on most of them. YES maintenance is expensive, yes parts are kinda expensive, but the vehicle itself is just classy and the lines are beautiful.

Honestly i would have never looked at it until i actually took one for the weekend when i was filming in L.A. and took it down to San Diego. I had the 3.0 as a test vehicle. (Since i worked at the Jag dealer, i could take cars for the weekends)

I loved the ride, and it was a pleasure to drive. Plus i got to see the cars everyday and it really grew on me FAST. I was driving a Mazda 6 at the time, and while i liked that car alot (it was a 06 3.0 V6, 6 speed) it was no where close to the ride of the Jaguar.

So i started searching for a 4.2 V8 S-Type and happened to find my STR with 25k miles on it. I scooped it up as soon as i could. It has 50k on it now, and just turned 8 years old.

I don't know anything else in the 25-28k price range with all of the features, performance, low miles and sexiness that the R has. I'd much rather have an '08 M5 as it is more of a driver's car but everyone has a BMW, and they are still overpriced.

I was dazzled by all the pretty lights on the dashboard! Oh, wait, what do you mean they're not supposed to be on?

Crap.

In reality, performance, handling, looks, performance, ride comfort, and performance. Did I mention performance?

And all the pretty lights.

I was looking for a comfortable RWD sedan that my wife could drive back and forth to Tampa on her solo jaunts to visit her elderly parents five to six times a year, trying to offload some of the miles from her 2004 Lexus RX330 AWD SUV primary vehicle. After some serious research, I concluded that the S-Type was the best bang-for-the-buck, hands down. Doesn't hurt that it is also gorgeous. Stole our 2005 3.0 for "Honda money" with just 18,000 miles on the odometer at the local Jaguar dealership back during the depths of the recession in December 2008. Never would have believed that my wife can get close to 34 mpg during her Florida runs with the A/C on and cruise control set at around 72 to 74 mph. Still extremely happy with the car. I'm driving it when she's in her Lexus and I don't need to take my Ram out. The S-Type should turn 60,000 miles in July....

I bought my S-type:--

1) Because it's a diesel and it goes like fury....quietly.
2) The second-hand price was right, far lower than the equiv. BMW 5-series.
3) Sensible boot/trunk space with the fold-down rear seats. Better than the XJ6/8s.
4) Best looking retro car on the market. Better than Beetle, better than Fiat 500.
5) Nothing else is QUITE LIKE a Jaguar-- right?

Leedsman.
