No power - I would check the grounds first. The wheel controls work by measuring resistance across two wires, but the only thing the horn, steering wheel and cruise control components share in common is the ground.

I had a document I wrote trying to figure out the discrepancies of the steering wheel remote controllers when used with an aftermarket stereo, but it should be of some use. I'll attach it to this thread.

I had a similar problem on a previous car I had. Turned out it was just the contacts on the revolving ring that were dirty. A quick clean and daub of vaseline and it worked fine again. It was a Volvo so not quite the same set up but radio and cruise were on it too so can't be too different.

You need to change the clock spring. Jaguar has a different name for it-some kind of cartridge. This located directly under your steering wheel. Easy to change but you do need to remove the airbag and the steering wheel. Some people do not want to work around the airbag and take it to the dealer. Part should be about $150. You can clean them but I really recommend just installing a new one.

@androulakis have you been able to figure out the issue with aftermarket stereo when the steering wheel audio switches are illuminated? I am having this issue on my 2008 Jaguar XJ8 X358. I replaced the OEM radio by a Pioneer and to retain the steering wheel control I've tried the PAC SWI-RC-1 and the AXXESS ASWC-1 with no luck. Both are affected by the discrepancy of resistance when headlights are on vs. off. Is there a way to cancel the illumination for this audio switch? Is there a fuse or an specific wire I can cut?

Well he has not posted for over 6 years or so? Probably long gone.
I would post your question in the XJ forum as this is for the old S-Type.
