Default Steering Wheel Upper Cowl Removal and Replacement

Anyone have any tips or tricks on removing and replacing the upper plastic steerng wheel cowl / trim? Its has two long screws that go from the bottom half into a couple of long plastic posts on the upper part. Must i drop the steering wheel to get clerarance below the clusterto get these back on without breaking the posts off?

If memory serves, move the steering column to it's lowest position and furthest from the instrument cluster to allow sufficient clearance to remove it.

If you must remove the steering wheel, follow the directions in the Workshop Manual:

I did that and ended having to remove the 4 bolts holding the column in anyway. That gave me an extra inch needed to insert the shroud without breaking the long plastic posts. I don't think I have ever worked on any model or make of car that didn't require doing this in order to install the surrounds for a column. I thought about that after my post :-)
