Hey I was interested in purchasing a 2003 STR and was going to take it to the jag. dealer before I bought it to get it checked out first. I was wondering what would be valuable for me to get checked out thouroughly on the car before I make my decision. In another words what is most likely to go wrong on a 2003 STR should I check before I make this expensive desicion.

 

Hey Chris the problem you'll get is

Your super charger pulley goes out alot
Your A/C will blow hot air on your right and left and rear vents and blows cold air in the middle vents and you'll never find out what the problem is
Your breaks and rotor goes out fast
Your Head light will start to point down
Your door window switch light will go out

These are the problem I got with my 03 STR

 

Buying the car is not the "expensive decision". The car is probably very cheap in relative comparison to other comparable cars (which are few and far between!).

The "expensive decision" you must make is whether or not you can pay to properly maintain the car.

For anyone not familiar with these cars, the Jaguar S-Type R's bring a new meaning to the term "High Maintenance".

STR's will make you start debating which was a better deal...maintaining your Jag, or maintaining your fake-boobed, blonde, gold-digging trophy wife. Both have their perks, boths have their drawbacks.

Don't forget to get yourself a warranty too.

Aside from that, it's the best car you'll ever own for the amount of money you pay to buy it. Enjoy ;-)

 

I would say to not waste your money taking it to Jag for a check-out and just put that money towards a reputable aftermarket warranty..
Just remember that ever though your most likely paying less than $20k for the car, the sticker price was $65k and the maintenance will reflect that price, so make sure you know what your diving in to..
